Titulaire d’un doctorat en construction parasismique, l’Ingénieur Marc-Ansy LAGUERRE a poursuivi ses études aux États-Unis, où il continue également à approfondir ses connaissances. Il est par ailleurs PDG de Génie 360, une structure spécialisée dans le domaine de l’ingénierie.

Glad to have presented tonight during the conference organized by Ti koze sou konstriksyon. One point I discussed was the more intensive earthquake engineering research that began in Haiti after January 12, 2010. Certainly, this date remains among the most significant in Haiti’s history. At the same time, it is important to continue thinking collectively about how to strategically guide this field in Haiti, as much as possible, for future generations. I was also glad to reference several studies using atmospheric data in Haiti to explore the potential for earthquake prediction.

Happy to share that I will be presenting at the 4th anniversary conference organized by Ti Koze sou Konstriksyon on the use of machine learning and uncertainty quantification in earthquake engineering, with a focus on reinforced concrete building stock in Haiti.

During my presentation on earthquake engineering and the National Building Code of Haiti (CNBH) today, organized by the 1979 Promotion at the State University of Haiti, I emphasized how earthquake risk had long been overlooked in building design throughout much of Haiti’s history. However, with today’s different global context, advances in technology, and the widespread sharing of photos and videos, this risk is unlikely to be forgotten again. That alone represents an important step forward for progress in this field, as the risk is now clearer and more visible.

I also mentioned that the CNBH, now in its second edition, has made significant progress. At the same time, it remains a relatively young building code that will require continued efforts and future improvements, particularly in refining seismic hazard and vulnerability assessments for existing buildings.
