For the 20th year in a row, Plains was honored to host the Department of Public Safety (DPS) West Texas Regional Challenge at our Trucking Facility in Midland, Texas. The annual DPS vehicle inspection competition brings together State Troopers and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers from the Midland and Odessa Police Departments to showcase their skills in vehicle inspections and identifying violations. Their expertise is crucial in enforcing Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, helping ensure the safety of Permian Basin roadways.

Competitors were judged in five scenarios: a written exam, a level one inspection, a non-bulk hazardous material inspection, a bulk hazardous material inspection, and a passenger vehicle inspection.

We extend our gratitude to all State Troopers and law enforcement officers dedicated to maintaining safety on our roads. Best of luck to the advancing competitors in the upcoming State Competition and the North American Inspectors Championship later this year!

Plains recently donated $110,000 worth of firefighting equipment to La Salle County Fire Rescue and the Dilley Volunteer Fire Department in South Texas. The donation was made in honor of Mike Page, a local Plains employee who passed away in 2023. Mike was active in the emergency response community and was well-known for his work and support of local first responders.

The equipment included a snorkel truck, ladder engine, personnel van, and rescue van, as well as self-contained breathing apparatuses and MSA full-face masks. The donation was made through Plains’ First Responder Grant Program, which funds the resource and training needs of non-profit emergency response and public safety organizations in the communities where Plains operates.

We are proud to support the Midland Police Department with a $20,000 grant to purchase training equipment for their Bomb Squad. The donation will go towards a piece of equipment that will update the 18-year-old radio-controlled initiators, equipment that is used regularly in training, and serve as an essential part of the team’s equipment to safely deal with the various threats the team encounters. Our team members, BJ Harrelson, Ross Hataway, Bill Gilliland, and Ariel Medina were honored to participate in a check presentation to recognize these first responders. Thank you for your service!
