StopForceā„¢ Safety Curtain was developed originally for Shell Offshore. It was designed to protect personnel from high-pressure blast waves and shrapnel by absorbing and dissipating the energy. Shell performed independent tests at Southwest Research and awarded it a Vendor #. Secondarily, the StopForceā„¢ Safety Curtain delivers a solution that is lighter than steel or concrete and saves the company money during testing and drilling operations.

The StopForceā„¢ Safety Curtain provides a layer of protection against shrapnel (0.1 to 2.3kg) traveling at a velocity of 900ft/sec in the case of a 15000 psi pressure failure of a Choke, Mud or Cement Manifold on an Oil & Gas drilling rig.

StopForceā„¢ Safety Curtains save time and money when carrying out pressure testing for Blowout Prevention Equipment Systems on drilling wells. This frame consists of 5x7 inch I-Beams (beam size could vary depending on the project) for both the vertical and horizontal members.

- Patented curtain containment technology
- Made from proprietary Xtegraā„¢ Auxetic yarn
- Saves time and money
- Saves people and equipment
- Portable, reusable and reconfigurable according to the installation layout, and assets to be protected. An increase in production reduces downtime
- StopForceā„¢ Safety Curtains utilize an interconnecting/interlocking connection system to allow multiple panels to be joined to form large continuous barriers
- StopForceā„¢ Safety Curtains spread and distribute loads spatially to absorb and dissipate energy in the presence of industrial explosions; there are no localized points
- Weight-to-benefit ratio is significant
- UV-protected and flame retardant (NFPA 701 or CSFM)
- 3-year warranty
- Corporate color and logo options

Not all dropped object prevention solutions are equal. As the ORIGINAL and first-to-market polymer-based snap-on, clip-on barricading system, we ensured that our product's quality was never compromised.

Our advantages:

Ā· BLH StopDropā„¢ system is fully recyclable. Our product is chlorine-free so any off-cuts can go into the recycle rubbish bin.

Ā· BLH StopDropā„¢ being chlorine-free also means when it is produced it does not give off any harmful gases (PVC-based products when made produce these harmful gases into the atmosphere) BLH is better for the environment and is ESG-compliant.

Ā· BLH StopDropā„¢ polymers are made from superior quality & manufactured in the most advanced Swiss-managed facility, fully climate controlled keeping quality assured.

Ā· BLH StopDropā„¢ does not use Chinese raw materials. We only use the most advanced polymer blend from SABIC.

Ā· All BLH StopDropā„¢ parts allow traceability right back from manufacturing to the end user showing the manufactured date on every single part.

Ā· BLH StopDropā„¢ has been tested for both extreme heat/cold in one system. Therefore, no need for two systems.

As of today, the 27th of June, the US DoL's daily fatality report for the Mining Industry shows 15 fatalities. Two of the fatalities have been classified under the slip/fall of a person, and another two are related to powered haulage (conveyor belts & haul trucks). There were also two fatalities related to machinery. These fatalities are not a far cry from last year's total deaths and tell us that we have a lot of work to continue raising awareness about fall prevention, safety when operating machinery, and additional safety measures related to conveyor belts.

If you are in the mining industry, what proactive safety measures do you implement to ensure your workers and contractors are safe? One of the most common 'excuses' we hear from some companies ranges from 'we do not have a budget for a safety solution' to 'safety is not really our priority right now.'

At 5th Element, our priority remains the same: help companies keep their employees and workplace safer through education, training, awareness, and practical product solutions to mitigate hazards. https://buff.ly/3ohPiGj

Slips, trips and falls can happen anywhere in you operation. Slips and trips can result in falls, possibly disability or death with potential substantial costs to employer and worker. Did you know that slips, trips and falls are the among the top causes of the most disabling workplace injuries in 2021? STF’s make up majority of the general accidents across different industries from Construction, Healthcare and Social Services, Leisure and Hospitality, Manufacturing, Professional Services, Retail, Transportation and Warehousing to Wholesale.

OSHA regulates slips, trips and falls under Subpart D ā€œwalking-working surfaces.ā€ These requirements apply to all general industry workplaces. It also covers all walking and work surfaces within these workplaces regardless of operations, including floors, aisles, stairs, ladders, platforms, roofs, etc.

Do you know how strong your dropped object barricading is? Many barricading manufacturers feel that stronger is better, but that is not the case for dropped object barricading. Your barricading should act as a shock absorber not a deflector. Barricading is attached to handrails which are engineered for specific amounts of force. Before barricading elevated areas to reduce dropped objects items would pass through the handrail with little to no damage to the handrail.

We are now back to the question: Is your barricading too strong? The use of steel grating, plywood and PVC based barricading can introduce forces onto your handrail that are detrimental to the design and safety of the handrail. Barricading that is too strong can cause the object to deflect back towards the employee. These types of barricades do reduce the risk of dropped objects, but can create secondary issues which are just as damaging as the dropped object.

This is why you should use Stop Dropā„¢ barricading in all your facilities and projects. Our special blend of highly engineered polymers allows the Stop Dropā„¢ barricading to act as a shock absorber. The Stop Dropā„¢ barricading reduces the risk of dropped objects from elevated work areas, but also reduces the risk of damage to the handrail or injury to the employee due to defection.

So ask yourself prior to installing any barricading: Is this barricading too strong?

The OSHA fall protection rule covers falling object protection https://buff.ly/3895LZk.. The rule requires your employer to take measures to protect you from falling objects.

Hard hats are the number one defense against overhead hazards including falling objects. However, hard hats are not enough. An additional method of protection must be used when there are employees working or walking below.

Falling object protection alternatives:

OSHA provides a number of falling object protection methods to select from, depending on your company’s need. The choices are toe boards and screens, guardrails, canopies, signs, barricades, or simply moving objects away from the edge.

Guardrails – When guardrails are used to prevent materials from falling from one level to another, any openings must be small enough to prevent passage of potential falling objects.

Toe boards – When toe boards are used as protection from falling objects, they must be erected along the edges of the overhead walking/working surface for a distance sufficient to protect persons working below.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that there are more than 50,000 ā€œstruck by falling objectā€ recordable injuries every year in the United States. There are nearly 116 injuries caused by falling objects every day or one injury caused by a dropped object every 10 minutes. Are guardrails and toe boards enough to prevent materials from falling from one level to another? For more information on Safety Barricading: https://buff.ly/3vvP695

04/15/2022

Moving machine parts have the potential to cause severe workplace injuries, such as crushed fingers or hands, amputations, burns, or blindness. Safeguards are essential for protecting workers from these preventable injuries. Any machine part, function, or process that may cause injury must be safeguarded. When the operation of a machine or accidental contact injure the operator or others in the vicinity, the hazards must be eliminated or controlled.

OSHA’s machine guarding standard 1910 subpart O (1910.212) states that: ā€œOne or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc.ā€
