Today, we’re spotlighting Susan Marriott, Ph.D., who brings the same courage and sense of adventure to life that she brings to leading our team.

Here she is outside the office… skydiving.

Susan’s willingness to leap (literally!) is one of many qualities that inspire our team.

We’re grateful for her vision and for the passion she brings to supporting the scientific community, both on the ground and in freefall.

Did you know National Institutes of Health (NIH) offers an often-overlooked funding mechanism that can boost an active project without requiring a full resubmission?

Administrative Supplements (PA 26 001) allow investigators to request additional funds for unanticipated needs, as long as the work stays within the scope of the parent award. These requests don’t require peer review, making them a faster path to securing support for emerging project needs.

This opportunity can be especially valuable when:
• New data require additional experiments
• Essential equipment fails
• A collaborator or trainee needs short-term support
• A new technology becomes available

If you haven’t considered this mechanism lately, it may be worth revisiting. Many investigators are surprised by how much flexibility Administrative Supplements can offer.

On March 10, our BioScience Writers team had the honor of presenting for the North American Vascular Biology Organization (NAVBO) Roundtable: Navigating the New Era of Research Funding. It was a fantastic conversation!

Funding priorities are shifting, AI tools are becoming part of the research workflow, and scientists everywhere are working hard to adapt. Our expert panel shared practical, experience-driven advice to help researchers navigate these changes with confidence.

A huge thank you to:
🔹 Susan Marriott, Ph.D., Professor at Baylor College of Medicine & President of BioScience Writers
🔹 Charlene Emerson, Ph.D., Director of Business Development
🔹 Lisa Giles, Ph.D., Lead Technical Writer
🔹 Laura Marinelli, Ph.D., Senior Technical Writer

We were grateful for the opportunity to support the scientific community and appreciated the thoughtful questions from attendees. And yes, we couldn’t resist capturing a screenshot of our panel “in action”!

Thank you to NAVBO for hosting this important discussion.

Meet Julie Edwards, our Director of Publication Services and someone our clients work with every day.

When she’s not coordinating projects, answering client questions, or ensuring every order moves smoothly, she’s giving back to her community. Here she is volunteering at a food drive, bringing the same kindness and dedication she shows our clients.

We’re lucky to have her. ❤️

AI tools are becoming a regular part of writing. But even the best AI can miss the nuances that matter most in grant and manuscript submissions.

Our team of editors helps you:

• Strengthen clarity and coherence
• Avoid common pitfalls that flag AI usage
• Ensure each section aligns with sponsor or journal standards
• Preserve your unique scientific voice

If you use AI as your starting point, we can help you finish strong.

Behind every funded proposal is a story — and we’re honored to be part of Dr. Eva Amenta’s.

Dr. Amenta partnered with BioScience Writers during her VA Career Development Award application. Here’s what she shared:

“I enthusiastically recommend Bioscience Writers for grant editing services. Their attention to detail, thoughtful suggestions, and grammatical editing was outstanding. I have since recommended their use to colleagues who are undertaking grant submissions as they were so helpful in getting my grant funded! I look forward to using their services again in the future.” — Eva Amenta, M.D.

Helping researchers secure career‑defining opportunities is why we do this work. If you're preparing your next grant submission, you don’t have to do it alone. We’re here to help you tell your science story with clarity and impact.

Happy Chinese New Year! As we welcome a season of renewal and opportunity, it’s the perfect time to set your research up for success.

Even the most groundbreaking ideas can be overlooked if they’re not communicated clearly. Our role is simple: to help your science shine by ensuring your proposals are consistent, precise, and reviewer-ready.

This year, let clarity and confidence lead the way. Wishing you prosperity, impactful discoveries, and continued success in the year ahead!

Think of editing as an investment, not an expense. When you submit a grant proposal, you’re not just sharing your science. You’re competing for resources that can transform your research program.

A single NIH R01 award can bring in hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of dollars in funding. Yet, many proposals fall short because their message isn’t clear, consistent, or compelling. Reviewers notice when ideas are fragmented or when sections don’t align.

That’s where we come in. Our team of expert editors ensures your proposal speaks with one strong voice, highlighting your vision and impact. A small investment now can lead to extraordinary returns later.

When the stakes are this high, clarity isn’t optional — it’s essential.

You’ve done the hard part: groundbreaking research, innovative ideas, and results that matter. But when it’s time to share your work, writing can feel like the biggest barrier.

As Trish Anen, RN, MBA, put it:

“These are leaders who have done some great work and need to share it with others, but find writing articles intimidating. I tell them you and your team make it easy.”

At BioScience Writers, we help ambitious scientists turn complex findings into clear, compelling publications that elevate their impact. Writing shouldn’t hold you back; it should amplify your success.

Your research deserves the spotlight. Ready to make it happen? Let’s connect.
