We want to share a change that will be coming in August. This is not a change made by us but by AT&T:
AT&T Text Messaging Notification Support Sunset
In response to changes implemented by AT&T, support for text message delivery of notifications from Alarm.com will be discontinued for most notifications sent to AT&T mobile devices after August 15, 2025. To ensure your customers using AT&T mobile devices continue receiving notifications about their Alarm.com system activity, we will be taking the following actions:
Expanding SMS-to-Push Notification migration tools, targeting accounts with AT&T contacts.
Removal of AT&T SMS as a selectable notification option in the end-user interfaces
We will continue to send alarm and other critical (specifically Two-Factor Authentication) notifications via SMS to AT&T recipients already subscribed to these notifications but will not allow new subscriptions for AT&T contacts moving forward.
As a reminder, Alarm.com already supports other messaging formats, including Push Notifications through the mobile app. Push Notifications can be used as an alternative to SMS and we recommend you encourage your customers to use Push Notifications whenever they set up Alarm.com notifications. We are taking steps to reduce the overall usage of text messages moving forward for all carriers. Below is a summary of the forthcoming changes:
August 15th, 2025: Customers using AT&T mobile phones will no longer be able to receive text notifications about all system activity. Customers will no longer be able to select SMS delivery to AT&T devices when creating or editing notification rules and/or recipients.
Note: Alarm.com will continue to support delivery of SMS notifications for alarm events to customers with those notifications enabled after August 15, 2025. We have chosen to continue support for these alarm notifications to minimize the potential inconvenience experienced by your customers who may rely on critical alerts sent to AT&T SMS recipients.
August 15, 2025: Any text messages sent by Alarm.com after August 15, 2025 will come from a different number than the one currently in use.
We will expand on our existing messaging within the user interfaces to drive customers to choose Push Notifications instead of MMS/SMS when setting up notifications. We have already rolled out a Push Notification Migration tool to some customers on other impacted carrier networks, and plan to make this tool available to AT&T customers as well.
We strongly recommend Push Notifications as the preferred means for mobile messaging as they provide the following advantages:
Do-Not-Disturb override for critical alerts. These loud notifications are optimal for the most important alerts.
Smart redirection to live or saved clips depending on whether the notified clip has been uploaded yet – letting customers go straight to the action.
Ability to pause notifications directly from the Push Notification.
Unique doorbell sound effect.
Take action from Push Notifications without having to open the Alarm.com app (i.e. close the garage door from a door-left-open alert).
Continuous enhancements as iOS and Android functionality evolves.
