Plenty of Houston homes and buildings have fiberboard ducts instead of metal — that gray fiberglass board. Here's what nobody tells you: it's porous, so dust sinks in and clings to it. And you can't clean it like metal. Scrub too hard and you shred the surface, which causes more problems than it fixes.

Retail spaces like this run their HVAC hard all week, so the ductwork and diffusers collect a lot of dust over time. We came in after hours, cleaned the supply ducts section by section, pulled and washed every ceiling diffuser, and repainted the ones that had gone dingy before putting them back up. The store opened clean the next morning.
