What happens when exosomes meet microneedling? A randomized, split-face clinical study set out to answer exactly that.

28 adults with facial wrinkles had microneedling on both sides of the face. One side received adipose-derived stem cell exosomes; the other received saline. After 12 weeks, the exosome side showed greater improvement in:
— wrinkles
— elasticity
— hydration
— pigmentation

No adverse reactions were reported.

In 2025, there’s a good chance you’ve heard the term “exosomes.” While the interest around them continues to grow, it’s important to remember that exosomes are not just a trend and that they’re a well-established area of scientific study.

Exosomes are small extracellular vesicles (30–150 nm) secreted by most cell types, playing a critical role in intercellular communication. They carry bioactive molecules, including proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids (e.g., mRNA, miRNA), which influence physiological and pathological processes of recipient cells.

Did you know that the human body has ~37 trillion cells, and many secrete hundreds to thousands of exosomes per day?
