A round of golf turned into an unexpected customer service call. ⛳

A customer in Austin reached out on a Saturday afternoon needing steel for an urgent project.

Jason Gunn, one of our inside sales representatives, was enjoying a round of golf when he got the call. With a little teamwork, our sales team quickly got to work helping the customer get the material they needed.

It's a good reminder that urgent material needs don't always happen during regular business hours.

The Texans might not have pulled off a win, but we'd say our tailgate was a win. 🏈

We enjoyed spending the day tailgating with our coworkers, friends, family, and customers. It's always nice to get everyone together outside of work for good food, conversation, and a little football.

A big thank you to our team for all the time and effort that went into putting everything together, and a special shout-out to David for handling the cooking and keeping everyone well-fed.

A shorter piece of steel can mean a smaller shipping bill.

A customer in North Carolina recently ordered five pieces of 10" Schedule 40 steel pipe, weighing a total of 2,125 pounds.

The pipe normally comes in 21-foot lengths, but the customer chose to have it cut in half before shipping.

The result? Freight costs were reduced by more than 50%.

A lot of parts, all starting with a single sheet of steel.

Our CNC plasma cutting table has been busy cutting these parts for a customer.

What's great about plasma cutting is how we can cut so many parts from a single sheet while keeping the shapes and dimensions consistent.

It's a good example of what our plasma cutting equipment can do.

These aren’t your average round bars. 👀

Pictured here are four 5" cold-rolled round bars made from 1018 steel.

Cold rolling gives the steel a smoother finish and tighter tolerances, making 1018 a popular choice for machined parts like shafts, pins, and fasteners.

At 20 feet long, each bar weighs approximately 1,335 pounds.

Just one of those things you don’t see every day.

Some steel really puts “heavy” into perspective. 👀

These two W36 x 487 wide fl**ge beams were sourced for a customer and loaded onto one of our trucks for delivery.

Each beam is 25 feet long and weighs 487 pounds per foot, putting each one at 12,175 pounds.

A few more numbers that show just how massive they are:
🔹 Actual width: 39.32"
🔹 Web thickness: 1.50"
🔹 Fl**ge thickness: 2.68"

With our truck measuring 96" wide, these two beams side by side take up most of the available width.

Definitely not something you see loaded up every day.
