Is your Fanuc control Holiday ready?
With the Holidays upon us, KFAS would like to remind you how to prepare and maintain your Fanuc controls and CNC machines during the holiday shutdowns, to avoid costly downtime and surprises upon your return after the holidays.

Many machine shops operate 10-14 hour days, 5-6 days a week. But, during the last weeks of December, many businesses shut down for days or a week.

We suggest you take the following steps before you shut down for the holidays.

(1) Check if your memory backup batteries on your CNC control and the absolute pulse coder batteries need to be replaced. We have a helpful video on our website on how to identify the batteries. Remember, safety first when you are working in or around the high-voltage electricity in the electrical cabinets.
(2) If it has been more than a year or longer since you last replaced the batter(ies), it is NOW time to order the replacements. Again, use our video guide to locate and identify the batteries you need and contact Fanuc America to purchase them.
(3) If you do not have a recent data backup of your CNC control, now is a good time to perform that backup. We have step-by-step procedures on our website.
(4) It is also a good idea to check on the general condition of your electrical cabinet. What is the condition of cooling fans, and air filters? Is there any contamination (oil/ grease or dust buildup)? Proper cooling and ventilation are always a must in the CNC electrical cabinet even in the winter months and/or cooler temperatures. If you see excessive contamination on your CNC control, servo, and spindle amplifiers, it will be a good idea to have them washed and tested. Washing and testing are some of the services we offer at KFAS.
Proper maintenance of your industrial electronics will keep your CNC machines running smoothly.

Is your Fanuc control Holiday ready?
With the Holidays upon us, KFAS would like to remind you how to prepare and maintain your Fanuc controls and your CNC machines during the holiday shutdowns to avoid costly downtime and surprises upon your return after the holidays.

Many machine shops operate 10-14 hour days, 5-6 days a week. CNC machines are typically left under power most of the time. During the last weeks of December however, many businesses shut down for days or a week.

The time to prepare your Fanuc control and CNC machine for the upcoming holiday is right now. May we suggest you take the following small steps.

When your Fanuc control experiences hardware issues such as servo, spindle or power supply issues, you typically have many sources to turn to, which includes OEM and 3rd party sellers like us. HOWEVER, when the memory backup battery on your Fanuc control runs low and corrupts the memory, very rarely you will be able to get the backup data from the machine tool builder or even Fanuc. It does not help that many machine tool builders and your local dealers that you have purchased the machine from may no longer even be in business anymore. Furthermore, even if you manage to obtain a copy of "standard '' factory settings for your machine, it is more than likely that your machine has been "customized" and/or fine tuned after setup at your facility. And, restoring the data is never a smooth process as each machine builder has a special process to reset functions such as tool changers and pallet changer.

What You Can Do to Minimize Your Chance of Downtime

(1) Check when was the last time you replaced the memory backup batteries on your CNC control. And also absolute pulse coder batteries although not all controls/machines utilizes this. We have a helpful video here on how to identify the batteries. Remember, safety first when you are working in or around the high voltage electricity in the electrical cabinets.

(2) If it has been more than at least a year or longer since you last replaced the batter(ies), it is NOW time to order the replacements. Again, use our video guide to locate and identify the batteries you need and contact Fanuc America at 18883268287 or www.fanucamerica.com to order.

(3) If you do not have a recent data backup of your CNC control, now is a good time to perform that backup. We have step-by-step procedures on our website.

(4) It is also a good idea to check on the general condition of your electrical cabinet while you are at it. What is the condition of cooling fans, air filters? Is there any contamination (oil/ grease or dust buildup)? Proper cooling and ventilation is always a must in the CNC electrical cabinet even in the winter months and cooler temperatures. If you see excessive contamination on your CNC control, servo and spindle amplifiers, we offer wash/test service.
