Time to do a little compression math. 🧮 These are going on a 4.000 stroke 410ci LS, obviously. 😁 I’ll be posting build pics next week. 💪 These heads are going to get about .025 cut off to get them in the sweet spot. 😁

What’s your guess for combustion chamber cc??? If you guess right, you get a shout out. 🤪

2014 Volvo S60 5 cylinder. These heads are kinda a pita to rebuild, as they have a full cover that has the cam caps integrated so valve clearance must be set with some creativity.

This is one of our extreme cylinder head repairs. 💪 Not too many shops will take something like this on. This was all done in house. The final completed product will be posted next week. I’ve been welding and repairing aluminum cylinder heads for almost 35 years. 🤯😲

Here’s some craziness for ya! 🤪

This 2.7 EcoBoost head had cracks all over the floor of the exhaust port, and this is what it takes to get in there and weld them up. 💪👊 The client says this right-side head is as rare as hen’s teeth, so I’m digging in to save it!

Yeah, it looks extreme—but I’ve repaired much worse. Over 35 years of welding everything from lousy castings to cylinder heads with blown-out combustion chambers will teach you a few things.

I’m not the guy laying down beautiful beads for pictures. My specialty is rebuilding a casting and making it functional again. There’s a whole lot more to this work than how the weld looks.

I don’t do nearly as much of this these days. Factory aluminum castings have gotten a lot better, and the cracking that used to keep me busy isn’t nearly as common anymore.

But every once in a while, one comes along that puts those old skills back to work. This is definitely one of them! 🤩
