It’s always nice to hear from my machine tool rebuilding customers for Clausing and Bridgeport products especially.

My dad sold this Clausing drill press to this customer back in the 1970’s. I rebuilt it in 2006.

I dismantled this drill press to the very last bolt and it received a total “rebuild” making it like brand new. I have never had a follow up service call for it or the others I rebuilt for them.

Anyway, being in business now going on 41 years sometimes you wonder what becomes of your work from decades ago.

Here’s an email I received yesterday from a customer of over thirty years. He was merely checking on me and asked for some brochures on new machines.

I have personally rebuilt over a half dozen machines for his company.

Here’s the email:

Tim,

I wanted to send you a photograph of the Clausing drill press you rebuilt for us back in 2006.

It is now 20 years since you have rebuilt it and the machine still operates perfectly and holds perfect size.

The Bridgeports you rebuilt for us are also doing wonderfully.

Thank you for doing such great work and giving us so much value for the dollar.

I want to wish you all a very Happy and prosperous New Year.

This photo is a few years old but it shows me doing what I love…rebuilding and repairing industrial machine tools especially Clausing/ Colchester & Bridgeport products.

January 1 , 2026 marks forty (40) years since my father Joseph and me began this business and we have had such true success. At times we have grown and had upwards of twenty employees.

We are known and consulted by machine tool builder’s worldwide.

We have placed our family name of BESMER on every machine we’ve ever sold, repaired or rebuilt. Not many will do that. Not many CAN do that.

We are so confident in and proud of our work and products that we would BUY any product we have ever repaired or sold.

I will ALWAYS give God and our Lord Jesus Christ all the Glory for these forty years. When you’re life is dedicated to God and Jesus Christ all things are possible. If my father were still with us he would say the same thing.

Spent a few hours in the machine shop overseeing new replacement parts orders, getting a few machines ready for shipment and getting Bridgeports ready for entry into the shop for rebuild and repair.

Here is my 11” Clausing Colchester that my father and I purchased back in 1985 when I left Bridgeport and dad left Clausing. Forty years ago!

Clausing gave dad a superb deal on it to celebrate his 35 year retirement fully tooled with collets and all.

Whats exceptional is that this lathe has been used ONLY by dad and me for the past 40 years.

No other hands have touched it. Employees were forbidden to touch it.

After my dad died I kept it more for a sentimental item in the shop then for use and I usually had it covered with Die blankets and a tarp.

It has only about 200 hours of service on it total over those years making very small bushings and parts for Clausings and Bridgeports!

Soon it will have a new owner that will enjoy it an additional forty years I am sure.

This is one of the best lathes Colchester ever built (Bantam Gear Head) and it puts Precision Matthews and Grizzly’s to shame. They dont have a tenth of the quality of this lathe.
