Dear Chute Doctor Customers,

As we face the COVID-19 pandemic together, we wanted to let our family of customers know how we are continuing to provide you with our best-in-class service. In the past month, our teams of professionals have been working hard to ensure the following:

• Implemented all Federal, State, and County recommendations and orders.
• Remained fully staffed in California, Arizona, and Hawaii.
• Cleaned and sanitized chutes systems to keep buildings safe and healthy.
• Repaired and serviced Chutes and compactors to keep operational.
• Emergencies dealt with promptly and efficiently around the clock.

Keeping a building safe and healthy is of key importance not just for property, but also to prevent strain to our overburdened emergency services as noted in the latest NFPA issued guidance for life safety systems, regardless of occupancy status.

“While communities are rightly focused on dealing with the pandemic, we cannot put additional strain to our overburdened emergency response capabilities, by not ensuring buildings are protected with the very equipment that saves lives and property. First responders rely on commercial and multi-occupancy residential buildings in their communities to have a full array of fire and life safety systems such as working fire detection, alarms, and sprinkler systems.” - NFPA President and CEO Jim Pauley

Those responsible for these buildings should adhere to the expected schedules for inspection, testing, and maintenance that are vital to their operation. If they are unable to do so, they should contact their local authority having jurisdiction.

If you require an emergency, service, repair, or cleaning and sanitizing, please contact us today. It is important to keep your building healthy and clean, and all chutes and compactors fully functional.

Safety is of the utmost importance! It is always best to ensure trash collection room access is only permitted to qualified maintenance personnel who are trained in compactor and chute safety procedures. The apartment tenant in this news story was allowed keys and unsupervised access to the compactor, with tragic results.

A Palatine man was crushed to death in a trash compactor as he searched for his missing cell phone, authorities said.

While the details in this story aren't clear as to the cause of this incident, we always strongly advise everyone not to lean into the opening of a chute intake door for any reason, to avoid any accidents or falls that can cause injuries or worse.

An elderly woman reported missing Saturday was found dead Monday at the bottom of a trash chute in the Near North Side high-rise building where she lived.
