NEWS | Four Rogers Group Asphalt Plants Earn 2026 ENERGY STAR® Certification
NASHVILLE, TN – Rogers Group is proud to announce that four asphalt plants — Anderson, Algood, Huntsville and Tanner — have earned ENERGY STAR® certification this year, recognizing top-tier energy performance across the asphalt industry.
ENERGY STAR certification is determined using the Energy Performance Indicator (EPI), which evaluates total energy consumption, including electricity, equipment fuel, and heating and drying fuel, while accounting for regional factors and production tonnage. A score of 75 or higher places a plant in the top 25% of energy-efficient asphalt plants nationwide.
Anderson Asphalt Plant in South Carolina, led by Chip Nelsen (Area Manager), was Rogers Group's most energy-efficient asphalt plant of 2025 with an EPI score of 92. Anderson also earned ENERGY STAR certification for the second consecutive year, improving its score by nine points. A new low-NOx burner installed in April 2025 has already reduced natural gas consumption per ton by 8%.
Under the leadership of Woody Minnear (Area Manager), Algood joined the list of ENERGY STAR-certified plants for the first time. The team improved its EPI score by an impressive 28 points over the previous year. A key contributor was the installation of new aggregate storage barns, helping keep fine materials dry. Because moisture in fines is one of the largest drivers of energy use in asphalt production, every 1% reduction in moisture can reduce energy consumption by as much as 10%.
Led by Nick Richardson both Huntsville and Tanner earned ENERGY STAR certification for the second consecutive year. Their achievement makes Alabama the only Rogers Group SMA with two ENERGY STAR-certified asphalt plants. As of today, Huntsville and Tanner are also the only ENERGY STAR-certified asphalt plants in the state of Alabama, highlighting their leadership in energy-efficient operations.
Louis Warrick, Director of Corporate Asphalt Plants, shared this message:
“Having four plants achieve ENERGY STAR certification is something our whole organization can be proud of. It showcases the dedication, innovation, and daily commitment of our plant teams. Looking ahead, we’re setting an even higher goal: next year, we want every SMA to have at least one plant submitting for ENERGY STAR certification.”
These accomplishments demonstrate that energy efficiency and operational excellence go hand in hand. By continually investing in our people, processes, and technology, Rogers Group is reducing energy consumption, lowering costs, and strengthening our commitment to sustainable, responsible asphalt production.
Congratulations to the teams at Anderson, Algood, Huntsville, and Tanner on this outstanding achievement!
