Wildfire mitigation works best when it's focused and done in priority order based on risk.
For the 2025 CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit Fire Plan, Vibrant Planet’s risk analytics platform helped the Unit identify strategic wildfire mitigation treatments that could provide the greatest potential benefit.
Here are some key results from this work:
🔎 2 million+ acres evaluated across the Unit boundary, and 116,807 acres identified for high-impact treatments
💡 Modeling suggests these priority areas have the potential to deliver the greatest wildfire risk reduction if treatments are implemented, with up to an 89% reduction in wildfire hazard in targeted areas under modeled conditions.
The 116,807 acres represent a strategic planning footprint, not a commitment to treat every acre. The analysis identifies where future projects could provide the greatest potential benefit, while actual implementation depends on funding, land ownership, environmental review, partner capacity, and long-term maintenance.
The analysis suggests that focusing treatments in a relatively small portion of the 2 million+ acre landscape could capture more than half of the modeled risk-reduction benefit, helping CAL FIRE and its partners prioritize future mitigation work where it has the greatest potential impact.
This strategic, science-based mitigation planning powered by Vibrant Planet, is the future of wildfire prevention in California.
