The backpacks are packed, pencils are sharpened, and kids are heading back to school! But with the consistent storms and heavy weather we’ve been having, your home could use a little homework too. ⛈️

First and foremost, we hope everyone in our community made it through the severe weather safely. Storms like this can leave behind a lot of damage, and sometimes the problems with your home or property aren’t immediately noticeable.

If your property was in the path of the storm, take a few minutes—when it’s safe—to look for signs of damage, including:

🏠 Missing, lifted, or damaged shingles
🔨 Roof damage from wind, hail, or falling debris
🏡 Damaged or missing siding
🌧️ Bent, loose, or damaged gutters and downspouts
🌳 Downed trees, limbs, and storm debris
💧 Leaks, water intrusion, or other signs of roof damage

We hope everyone made it through the severe weather safely and that your families are doing well.

With the tornadoes, high winds, and heavy storms that moved through our area, now is a good time to inspect your home for signs of damage. Even if everything looks fine from the ground, wind and hail can cause hidden damage to your roof, siding, and gutters.

Our good friend and longtime supporter Patrice Riesenberg Wirth said it best:

“On Kentucky Oaks day you should do 2 things, first wear pink to honor breast and ovarian cancer fighters and survivors. Second, watch The 18th annual Kentucky Oaks Survivors Parade at 5:30 p.m. Watching these strong women walk on the track will be the best thing you’ve seen in a while.

And for the first time ever, the fillies will run in prime time! The Kentucky Oaks post time is 8:40 pm. Wear your pink, encourage a fighter, congratulate a survivor, and cheer on the girls walking and running today. Go baby, go!”

At The Blue Roof Company, we stand alongside this message with deep respect and admiration. Today is a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience, and courage shown by women facing and overcoming breast and ovarian cancer. We are especially proud to recognize our own survivor (Aunt) Missy Wingo, whose perseverance and spirit inspire everyone around her.

“When we inspect a home, we’re not just looking at the roof…”

A lot of people think an inspection is just:
👉 “Do I have missing shingles or not?”

That’s a small part of it.

When we’re on a home, we’re looking at the entire exterior system—because everything works together.

Here’s what we’re actually checking 👇

🏠 Roof
-Shingles that are cracked, curled, or starting to wear out
-Granule loss (a big sign the roof is aging)
-Soft spots you’d never feel from the ground
-Flashing around chimneys, vents, and valleys (common leak areas)
-Ridge lines for sagging or early structural issues

💧 Gutters & Drainage
-Clogs and debris buildup
-Gutters pulling away or not draining properly
-Downspouts not moving water away from the foundation

Because if water isn’t controlled here… it ends up somewhere you don’t want it.

🪵 Fascia, Soffit & Siding
-Rotting wood behind the gutters
-Water getting behind siding
-Areas where moisture is starting to sit or work its way in

These are usually early warning signs that something else is going on.

🏡 Attic / Interior (when needed)
-Signs of moisture or staining
-Poor ventilation causing heat buildup
-Insulation issues that can lead to long-term damage

🌪️ Storm Damage
-Wind lifting or loosening shingles
-Hail impact (not as prevelent) on vents, flashing, or roof surfaces

A lot of this isn’t obvious unless you know what to look for.

And here’s the truth:

👉 Most of what we find isn’t visible from the ground
👉 And most of it hasn’t turned into a big problem… yet

That’s the whole goal of a proper inspection:

This is how small problems turn into expensive ones…”

Most of the time when we get called out, it’s not for something major…

It started as something small.

👉 A little wear
👉 A small soft spot
👉 Minor drainage issue

Nothing that seemed urgent at the time.

But here’s the reality:

No missing shingles
No visible damage
Nothing that would make you think there’s a problem

But once we got up there, we found this 👇

👉 Aluminum ridge vent starting to fail

This is something we’re seeing more and more, especially on older roofs.

Here’s the issue most homeowners don’t know:

These aluminum ridge vents can:

* Separate over time
* Let water work its way underneath
* Start causing slow leaks along the ridge due to exposed fasteners
* Eventually lead to interior damage

And the worst part?

👉 You usually won’t see any signs from the ground.

This one hadn’t caused major interior damage yet…
but it was definitely heading that direction.

We see this a lot around NKY & Cincinnati.

Catching it early can mean:
✔️ Simple fix
