NEW PRODUCT!

Replacement for Ford NH Tractors , E4NN3A244AA, 86602590, 83948972

This steering valve is a brand new European manufactured steering control unit coupled with a column adapter to allow replacement of Parker-TRW/Ross steering valves that have the pin hole shaft and built in relief valve function. Used on many Ford models 5110, 5610, 5900, 6410, 6610, 6810, 7610, this valve is identical hydraulically to the Hydraguide it replaces, and comes with a one year unlimited hour usage warranty.

This replaces E4NN3A244AA, 83948972, 86602590, 86602557, and Midwest Steering CL09P

Comparison:
As you can see in the comparison photos, the shaft extension, mounting bolt hole size and locations, and overall size are the same as the original Hydraguide. The ports are the same size as original but they are in somewhat different locations, so your supply lines will need to be moved or bent a bit to accommodate the new position. We highly recommend checking your installation and comparing to the photo that shows the porting arrangement so you will know what is involved.

Steering Column Tech Tip # 1 Column Attachment

A common question we are asked is; "Which column will fit my steering control unit?" The answer, like most things can be complicated. There are numerous different columns with different length measurements, shaft tops, special horn wiring features, and column mounting. Lets start with the the column mounting.

This post will explain the most common column to steering column connection style.

The majority of steering control units use an industry standard mounting style, at Midwest Steering we refer to this as "Eaton Style".

1) The steering valve will have a 4 bolt mounting pattern on a 3.25" bolt circle centerline. The green line line represent the 3.25" measurement.
2) Also the steering control unit will have a spool connection with female 12 point involute splines.

The majority of steering columns will also have a 4 bolt mounting pattern on 3.25" centerline. The column shaft will have a Male 12point involute spline to make the connection.

This is the most common style of column attachment, but there are some other steering valves with different mounting patterns and attachments. So please check your existing steering column and steering unit prior to ordering.

So why buy a GS41160C?
Our focus today is on the GS41160C, a top seller in our exclusive John Deere replacement line.

Let's highlight the advantages of the Eaton AL69804

Installation: A true bolt-in replacement, this valve requires no modifications to install, and all internal hydraulic functions are the same. It also accepts all the existing mounting hardware and the original steering column.

Performance. All internal hydraulic functions are replicated. The GS41160C has the exact same hydraulic valving as the AL69804. Closed Center, with inlet check, valve, manual steering check valve, anti-cavitation valves, and cylinder shock valves

Quality: This is a precision European manufactured valve, with superb fit and finish. Emphasis on quality is apparent down to the automotive grade paint used. We are not peddling some Chinese cheap knock-off. Replacement parts are available, if you ever need any.

Service: We are not just re-sellers; we service what we sell in house. We have been here 30 years, and we only sell steering gears and steering units (valves). We sell and service thousands of steering valves every year. From our technicians to our hydraulic test bench, we only have the best!

Everyone asks "So what's the difference". All things considered, PRICE is the main variable. Why pay $760.00, when you can pay $549.00. Sure the valve is made in Europe, the Char Lynn here in the USA. But there are plenty of other parts on this tractor that are not US made.

So if saving $211, doesn't convince you maybe the warranty will. The GS41160C has a 1 year parts and labor warranty. Same as the Eaton Char Lynn AL69804.

GS41160C Replaces
John Deere Steering Valve # AL69804 and the older AL41635

Eaton Char-Lynn # 262-1003-073, 262-1003-074, 262-1169-001, and 262-1169-002

Used in some of these tractor models:
#2350, 2355, 2750, 2755, 2950, 3040, 3140, so always match the numbers from the valve you have in the tractor. If your unit numbers do not match please call for help in finding a replacement. Keep in mind the AL69804 and the GS41160C both have Metric ports

Experience: Buy from professionals who have specialized in steering for agricultural and industrial applications for over 25 years. Steering is all we do! Free technical support, and we service what we sell from our central USA location, and all products are covered with one year warranty (Click here for more details).

Gear oil or Grease. Pick your Poison?
There is a great deal of mis-information regarding Saginaw Manual Steering gearboxes around the internet, and in print magazine and DIY manuals. Many customers take lubrication standards from 1940-60s repair manuals or from internet forums. While this info was applicable then it is no longer pertinent today.

We are frequently asked which do I use? Gear oil or grease?

The short answer can be both. Reality is often murky. GM (Saginaw Division of GM) compounded the problem by poor word choice. Many GM manuals state to use “l**e”. And then state gear oil and grease. GM further states anything adhering to GM4673M standards is fine.

What does this exactly mean?
Gear oil is often the first thing that come to mind. Will it work, yes. Will it leak, probably!

Can you use grease? Sure. GM originally called for self leveling grease from inception until the late 60s. But GM discovered the grease they were using was acidic! This caused pitting, and premature failure of internal parts. So GM went to a lubricant, but now even that is discontinued (GM Part No. 1051052)

What about Chassis Grease? It is “stiff” and is not designed for steering gear usage”Straight” from the container.

So what will work?
CV axle grease–If you can find it in large enough quantities. Normally found in those tiny packets with CV boots. Almost exactly replicates the original performance standards without the acid problems.
Many folks will use a chassis grease mixed with 90WT gear oil. Keep in mind they need to be mixed together and then installed into the gearbox. Do not simply just fill the box 1/2 way up with chassis l**e and top it off with gear oil. They may never mix together.
Our advice–Use LITHIUM GREASE. Lithium grease has all of the properties of mixing 90WT oil with a quality chassis grease without the hassle of mixing. Lithium Grease is available in tubes, or tubs at any auto parts store, unlike the CV axle grease. Plus it won’t leak like using straight 90WT oil, and it won’t cause problems with acid build up.

We use Phillips / Conoco Super Sta Grease #2 (Lithium Grease)

Tech Tip # 1 Gerotor Seal Height
Did you know the HGA series gerotor seal is actually taller than the steel gerotor retaining ring? Even though it looks odd, it is taller! So if you think we shipped the incorrect seal because the seal is taller then the steel ring, chances are we shipped the correct seal. Before you trim the seal to fit please look at the photos and read this post!

The HGA gerotor seal is rubber and designed to be taller than the retaining ring. When assembled the seal is compressed forming a complete seal.

We frequently receive calls stating the seal is taller than the seal that was removed. The rubber seal shrinks from age, and exposure to many heating and cooling cycles.
