So here is an issue I am dealing with right now, with this chimney removal. From the surface the the tile looks correct, and level. Once I began to tear into the chimney, I started to find wood, scattered throughout the layers of brick and cinderblock as basically filler pieces, mixed with about 6-8 inches of mortar to hold the finished tile in place where it needs to be to sit level. At first look, it all seemed to have just dropped a little from the weight.. but after inspecting it now looks as if someone “built”/stacked all of it together just to be able to lay tile. Here is just one example of what you may come across while trying to deal with a whole separate issue. Nothing goes picture perfect in this field of work, some times you just have to adapt to what is hidden below the surface.
