On the Charlestown Pike project in Clark County, Indiana, our inspection team is overseeing a challenging jack-and-bore operation beneath the CSX railroad tracks. The contractor is boring through rock to install a steel casing that will protect a new 12-inch water main.

Once complete, the water main will help expand capacity and support the needs of a growing community; all while minimizing disruption at the railroad crossing.

From alignment and installation to materials and workmanship, careful inspection helps ensure the infrastructure being built today is ready to serve the community for years to come.

Precision underground. Long-term impact above it.

Our Construction Inspection crew is hitting the ground in Hendricks County—literally!

The team is testing the soil strength and compaction on Ronald Reagan Parkway, to determine if the ground can adequately support the new roadway and the traffic it will carry for years to come.

Solid infrastructure starts from the bottom up, and our team is making sure every layer is built to last.

The United family came together for a fantastic company picnic at Victory Field, and what a day it was! Great food, great conversations, and the perfect backdrop of an Indianapolis Indians game that ended in a victory for the home team. ⚾

It is moments like these, away from the desk and out in the sunshine, that remind us why our culture matters. Shared experiences build the kind of camaraderie that makes coming to work every day that much more meaningful. Here’s to many more memories together!

A huge shoutout to our incredible summer interns!

They shined bright this summer, gaining hands-on experience across wastewater, bridge, construction inspection, road, survey projects, and even site visits! Hard work, great attitudes, and a well-deserved break or two along the way. We are so grateful for each of you. Good luck at school, as we know you'll accomplish great things.

Thank you, and best of luck in all your future endeavors!

United was grateful to participate in the recent Indiana State Transportation Workers Foundation (ISTWF) golf outing at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Indianapolis. The event raises funds for ISTWF, which provides financial support to the families of Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) workers who are injured or killed on the job.

INDOT employees build and maintain the highways and bridges our communities rely on every day, often working in hazardous conditions to help keep the public safe. We're forever grateful for the hard work and sacrifices that go into keeping our roadways and structures safe.

Congratulations to Jeffersonville Indiana and Mayor Mike Moore on the ribbon-cutting for the Charlestown Pike project! ✂️

This $29 million investment improves safety and traffic flow along a heavily traveled roadway by providing wider travel lanes, new sidewalks, curb and gutter, improved drainage, and upgraded utilities. Bob Stein and TJ Amick joined Mayor Moore to recognize this important milestone for the community.

United was honored to provide engineering design services for the project.

Details matter, which is why United’s Blake Gribben was in South Bend, carefully checking the running and cross slopes of a new curb ramp with a digital level. It’s the kind of precise, hands-on work that makes all the difference.

Getting these measurements right means the project meets ADA compliance standards and, more importantly, it means safer, more accessible sidewalks for students walking to Holy Cross School every day.

From the big picture to the finest details, our team is committed to getting it right. ✅

107 crashes in five years. 44,000 vehicles a day. Something had to change.

The signalized intersection at 146th Street and Allisonville Road in Hamilton County had reached a breaking point. Traffic had grown by more than 222% since 1997, and the intersection was failing during peak hours. United designed a grade-separated interchange to fix it, and the path from problem to solution was anything but straightforward.

𝗔 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲. The White River borders the project to the west, and established residential subdivisions press in from multiple directions. new frontage road was constructed in the southeast corner to protect interchange operations while preserving emergency vehicle access.

𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲-𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟭𝟰𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁. The final solution raises 146th Street over Allisonville Road, where a new roundabout serves traffic below. Mainline 146th Street now moves without signals, stops, or bottlenecks, eliminating the peak-hour delays that had plagued the corridor for years.

𝟯𝟭 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗹𝘀. 𝟭𝟲 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. 𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗰𝘂𝘁𝘀. Right-of-way acquisition touched 31 parcels, with 11 proactively acquired using 100% local funds before project programming to keep the schedule on track.

𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴. A six-phase maintenance of traffic plan limited the full closure of Allisonville Road to just 90 days, and a dedicated shuttle service kept pedestrians connected during sidewalk closures.

Complex projects get delivered by teams willing to work through hard problems.

Field work level: kayak required. 🛶

Mike Mulryan and Taylor DeGolyer recently wrapped up the final Phase 1 routine field inspections for the Bartholomew County bridge inventory, and let’s just say these bridges didn’t make it easy.

Bridges 149 and 170 cross the Driftwood River, and the water was too deep for a standard inspection, so the team took to the water to get the job done right. The focus was on scour around the piers, and the kayak gave them the access they needed to do a thorough job.

Taylor did manage to stay… mostly dry. 😉

On a beautiful summer evening, United's Karen Wood and her family hit the Midland Trace and the Monon Trail in Westfield for a bike ride, and the experience said it all.

Karen shared: “I was full of gratitude to have a pedestrian bridge to cross over SR 32 in order to keep my family and I safe. Thank you to the City of Westfield for partnering with us on this project!”

This is exactly why we do what we do. Seeing our own team members and their families benefit from the infrastructure we help bring to life is the greatest reward.

Thanks to the City of Westfield - Government for their partnership and for investing in safe, connected communities.
