In May 2026, solar panels produced 51% of California's electricity for the entire month* — a first for a clean energy source in the world.

Utilities have requested more than $18 billion in rate hikes across the U.S. in just the first half of 2026 — including a record $9.2 billion in Q2 alone, according to a new report from consumer advocacy group PowerLines.

More than 56 million customers could be affected, with the largest requested increases concentrated in the South ($4.5B), Midwest ($2.7B), and West ($1.5B).

The Associated Press AP went inside the factory that builds our panels.🇺🇸

It's the first plant in the U.S. to make and assemble the key parts of a solar panel under one roof — including the cell itself, the component that actually generates the electricity.

Most "American-made" solar is assembled here from parts made overseas. Qcells, the manufacturer behind Axia, is doing it start to finish in Cartersville, Georgia.

By the end of this quarter, Qcells will have the U.S. capacity to build 8.6 GW of panels a year — enough to power about 1.3 million American homes.*

From roofs to the Moon.

Qcells has been selected to send its next-generation tandem solar cells to the Moon as part of a NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration-funded space technology demonstration project, working alongside Georgia Tech Research Institute and Aegis Aerospace Inc.

The tandem cell pairs traditional silicon technology with perovskite, theoretically absorbing up to twice the sunlight of conventional cells while weighing less — and it'll be tested in some of the harshest conditions imaginable: extreme temperature swings, intense UV, and space radiation.

"This project will be a pivotal moment in expanding the possibilities of sustainable energy to space," said Qcells CEO Park Seung-deok.

On a rooftop solar project, roof pitch isn't always the problem. Often it's whether panels actually fit the roof's dimensions without losing system size. It's geometry.

A recent pv magazine piece nails it: residential roofs are full of hips, valleys, dormers, and setbacks. When modules can't follow the roofline cleanly, small gaps add up and usable space gets lost.

Panel dimensions matter. Right-sized modules follow more rooflines cleanly and make better use of complex or smaller roofs, where oversized panels leave gaps along edges and corners.
