New research from the UC Irvine Charlie Dunlop School of Biological Sciences reveals how damage to surrounding tissue can limit nerve cell repair.

Led by Assistant Professor Katherine Thompson-Peer's lab, the study provides new insight into how the cellular environment influences nerve regeneration and recovery after injury.

How do cells know which genes to turn on? 🧬

A team led by researchers at the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology in Vienna, together with the laboratory of Associate Professor Evgeny Kvon at the UC Irvine Charlie Dunlop School of Biological Sciences, used deep machine learning to design artificial DNA switches that successfully activated genes in specific tissues of living mouse embryos.

The findings could help scientists better understand development and pave the way for more targeted gene therapies.

A new study led by Ryan Beshai from the lab of Professor Cascade Sorte at the Charlie Dunlop School of Biological Sciences provides a new framework for understanding how climate driven changes in marine species can reshape ocean ecosystems.

Published in PNAS, the research offers valuable insights to help inform future conservation and resource management.
