University of California Irvine School of Biological Sciences is one of the largest and most productive schools on campus. The School has attained national and international distinction through outstanding research as well as instruction at the graduate and undergraduate levels. In 2013, the School of Biological Sciences enrolled 3,425 undergraduate student majors and 270 graduate students. Our co

mbined student population constitutes 19.4 percent of the total students on campus. In 2012, Biological Sciences awarded the second highest total number of degrees of any school at UCI: 952 Bachelor of Science degrees, 27 master of science degrees and 35 Ph.Ds. The rigorous undergraduate educational programs of the UC Irvine School of Biological Sciences emphasize broad subject competence and performance, allowing a high number of our graduates to attend health-related professional schools.

Congratulations to Jean Paul Chadarevian, PhD, a Dunlop School postdoctoral fellow, who has been awarded the two-year, $120,000 Holloway Postdoctoral Fellowship from The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) to support his research into novel cell-based therapies for Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD).

🔬His work focuses on iPSC-microglia transplantation as a potential treatment for FTD caused by progranulin deficiency (FTD-GRN), exploring how engineered brain immune cells could help restore function and advance new therapeutic approaches.
