❤️ REMEMBERING OUR FOUNDER, BOB MANN ❤️
Today, on Bob’s birthday, we celebrate and remember the man who started it all — our founder, our leader, and someone whose impact continues to be felt throughout Comptec.
Bob’s greatest passions in life were his family, Comptec, cars, and enjoying any chance to celebrate with a good sweet treat. Back in the day, a Sunday visit to Mr. Doughnuts was a family tradition. 🍩
His family, Gavin and Amy Mann, shared:
“Bob’s greatest passions in life were his family, Comptec, cars, and he loved any chance to celebrate or enjoy a sweet treat. Back in the day, a Sunday visit to Mr. Doughnuts was a family tradition. We know Bob is watching over us, proud of how Comptec continues to grow, and resting easy knowing his legacy lives on in all of us.”
Over the years, so many employees had their own special memories of Bob:
💙 Don shared: “Bob was a straight shooter with employees and customers — a no-nonsense kind of guy, which everyone respected. When you were called to the office, you knew he meant business.”
💙 “What I respected most about Bob was his quick thinking and engineering mind, his ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently. He was a HUGE music fan. He loved the Beatles! He knew his employees’ value, and he treated them as such.”
💙 Mark S. remembered: “Some of my best memories of Bob were when we would golf together in the same foursome on our Wednesday evening Comptec golf league events. When we managed to squeeze in nine holes on a business trip, it really made the ‘downtime’ fun.”
💙 “There was no downtime with Bob. If you were in another department, he would ask if you lost your way or go tell you to paint something.” He kept everyone on their toes!
💙 “Bob was very serious, but could be sarcastic once you got to know him. His laugh was so unique, it made you laugh. One time I made a comment he didn’t like leaving the QC office, and he kicked me in the butt. That’s the kind of relationship we had.”
💙 Bob C. remembered: “Bob came to me one day and said, ‘I have a BIG problem. I can’t get this engine out of the office.’ We went to Bob’s office and looked at the engine, turned it sideways, and got it right out.” He didn’t think it was funny, but we did.
💙 Justin shared: “As a 20-year-old kid at the time working on these parts, I would ask Bob about them. He would take the time to explain them to me and really enjoyed it. He knew my name and treated me like someone.”
💙 Harry remembered: “I wasn’t here long and was at Pep Boys one day after work and heard loudly, ‘Harry!’ Next thing I knew, he and the boys were coming over. I didn’t even think that he knew my name at the time, but he did.”
💙 Paul shared: “Bob was the one that hired me 26 years ago. One memory I have is when I was roughing up an antenna, he used to say, ‘How come I pay all this money for you just to rough it up?’ He would call the parking lot a ‘car park.’”
💙 Rusty remembered: “He used to handle all the meetings upstairs, and I had just started. I remember he used to talk with a strong British accent.”
💙 JD shared: “I was 18 years old and worked second shift. I doubled that day, and it was a Saturday. I was standing against a machine and fell asleep. I felt someone kick my shoe, and I looked up. It was Bob. He said, ‘Get up,’ and walked away. I grabbed a broom and started sweeping. I thought I was going to be fired. He never told my boss or fired me.”
💙 Clay remembered: “The day Bob was buying the building, he came back and said, ‘I’m trying to buy it and you’re trying to burn it.’ There was a fire in casting that day… I’ll never forget it.”
These stories remind us that Bob was more than the founder of Comptec. He was a mentor, a problem solver, a boss, a golfer, a car enthusiast, a music lover, and someone who knew his employees by name.
His personality, his humor, his high standards, and his way of doing things left an impression on everyone who had the opportunity to know him.
Today, we celebrate his birthday by remembering the moments that made him Bob — and by enjoying one of his favorites: DONUTS! 🍩☕
We know Bob would be proud to see how far Comptec has come and how his legacy continues through the people who make up this company today.
