The Village of North Barrington held a groundbreaking ceremony for the IL Rte. 59 GHO (Grassmere, Haverton, Oaksbury) Stormwater Drainage Project. The event, held on August 18, kicked off a significant infrastructure improvement to improve safety along IL Rte. 59 and Haverton Way by correcting chronic flooding and a failed stormwater infrastructure.
Civiltech led the specialized onsite wetland mitigation design for over 7 acres of wetland restoration and over 23 acres of wetland enhancement. The Nature-based Solutions team provided expertise in natural resource surveys, civil site design, and natural and nature-based features (NNBF) design to promote ecological and water quality benefits.
The groundbreaking ceremony included opening statements by Village President, Eleanor Sweet McDonnell and remarks by IDOT District 1 Engineer, Jose Rios; Lake County Stormwater Management Commission Executive Director, Kurt Woolford; and Robinson Engineering Senior Project Manager, John Beissel and Project Engineer, Jacob Wellbank.
Civiltech’s Director of Nature-based Solutions, Barry Stuedemann, gave a presentation titled Grassmere-Haverton Drainage Improvements and Wetland Mitigation Design in which he shared the: Permittee-Responsible Mitigation process; water quality, ecological, and habitat enhancement features; project challenges; and the design outcomes and long-term management goals and requirements.
Barry was accompanied at the groundbreaking by Civiltech’s Nature-based Solutions team.
