A small siding mistake caused nearly 25 years of hidden structural damage!
The upper siding J-channel had been butted directly against the lower J-channel, allowing water to continuously weep behind the siding. Over time, it caused:
• The entire rim board on this side of the home to rot
• Both main floor beams to rot off
• Subfloor damage extending 4 to 12 inches into the home
• Rotted exterior sheathing and mold growth
• The entire side of the home to sag more than 2 inches
We installed temporary supports, carefully lifted the home back into position, replaced the damaged structural framing, subfloor and sheathing, corrected the water issue, and reused the existing siding to keep everything matching.
DMC Construction installed new LVP flooring throughout the home once our repairs were finished.
This is a good example of how one incorrect exterior detail can cause major damage without being visible for decades.
