Engineering beyond the classroom!

Three engineers from our Jackson, MS, office, Ennis Crosby, PE, MAS, Gaurav Aryal, EIT, and Phillip Wright, EI, recently joined students at Jackson State University to share real-world insights into transportation engineering.

From bridge engineering and traffic safety to roadway design and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), our team gave students a firsthand look at the work behind the infrastructure that keeps communities moving. The discussion also covered the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam, internship opportunities, and involvement in professional organizations such as ASCE and ITE.

We're proud to support the next generation of engineers and grateful to Dr. Xiaobing Li and Jackson State University for the opportunity.

Congratulations to Neel-Schaffer’s David Bowman, PE, on his appointment by Gov. Tate Reeves to the Mississippi Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Surveyors!

David brings more than three decades of engineering experience to this role, helping uphold professional standards and protect the public across Mississippi. Since joining Neel-Schaffer in 1992, he has helped communities address water, wastewater, and infrastructure needs, including rebuilding efforts along the Mississippi Gulf Coast following Hurricane Katrina.

His commitment to the profession also carries a family legacy. David’s grandfather was among Mississippi’s earliest licensed Professional Engineers.

“My grandfather’s example has stayed with me throughout my career,” David said. “This appointment is an opportunity to carry that legacy forward by giving back to the profession and helping uphold the ethics and standards of engineering.”

David joins Neel-Schaffer colleague Steven Twedt, PE, who currently serves as the Board’s Vice President. We’re proud of their commitment to serving the public and our profession.

Discovery Crew is making news! WKRG recently featured the free STEM camp hosted by the University of South Alabama and the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Mobile Post for middle school students across the Mobile area.

Neel-Schaffer is proud to support Discovery Crew as a sponsor and event partner. Delane Marcordes and Koby Wofford are serving on the planning committee, helping bring this unique STEM opportunity to middle school students. Students will get to explore 3D printing with a printer we’re providing for camp activities and try their hand at water filtration in a workshop led by our team. This activity will give the students the opportunity to explore engineering concepts and discover how STEM shapes the world around them.

We’re honored to partner with fellow STEM advocates to give students a chance to explore the possibilities of engineering and technology.
