Project Spotlight: Gulf Shores Pedestrian Bridge – Intracoastal Waterway (City of Gulf Shores, AL)

Bridge work over active waterways requires coordination across construction, traffic, and environmental conditions, especially on projects that serve both function and community connectivity.

In Gulf Shores, Alabama, our team is providing Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) services for the City of Gulf Shores on the Waterway Village Pedestrian Bridge, a $24 million project spanning the Intracoastal Waterway near AL State Route 180.

The project includes a tied-arch pedestrian bridge, two stair/elevator towers, utility relocation, and plaza areas on both sides of the waterway.

Since construction began in March 2025, work has progressed on bridge piling, vertical construction, and supporting infrastructure, with ongoing traffic control and erosion control efforts helping maintain safe and efficient operations.

Projects like this highlight the importance of coordination, field leadership, and collaboration across teams, bringing together the strengths of our team.

Peak hurricane season is here.

Don’t let a slow start to the season leave you unprepared. Recovery funding opportunities often depend on decisions made before the event occurs.

Before disaster strikes, communities should review:

• Procurement policies and emergency contracting procedures
• Grant registrations and funding portals
• Documentation and cost tracking processes
• Disaster accounting procedures
• Emergency vendor and mutual aid agreements

The best recovery outcomes start with administrative readiness before the first emergency.

Preparedness isn't just about response. It's about positioning your community for recovery.

Now is the time to find the gaps, not after a storm does it for you. Review your recovery readiness today, and if you need help knowing where to start, our True North Emergency Management team is ready to help.

Project Spotlight: US 76 Bridge Replacement – Lynches River

Strong foundations are critical to bridge performance, especially across rivers and flood-prone areas.

On the US 76 Bridge Replacement over the Lynches River in Florence and Lee Counties, SC, our team led inspection efforts for the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) on a structure supported by 37 drilled shafts across river and swamp conditions.
From drilled shaft construction through final deck work, our inspectors worked alongside the contractor to maintain quality across all bridge elements.

This level of consistency is made possible by the shared approach and collaboration across our team.

Our team learned from great sessions, spent time with clients and colleagues, enjoyed time together, and explored some of the beautiful sights and flavors of South Carolina along the way.

Thank you to the South Carolina Department of Transportation for being such a wonderful host and giving everyone the chance to experience what makes Greenville so special.

Did you know? Clearing debris is only one part of disaster recovery.

Behind the scenes, communities must coordinate complex operations, document eligible work and costs, and maintain the records necessary to support FEMA reimbursement.
That’s where experienced debris monitoring makes a difference.

Our True North Emergency Management team provides scalable debris monitoring and disaster recovery support that works alongside your existing operations. From mobilizing qualified staff to overseeing documentation, reporting, and FEMA Public Assistance coordination, our team helps communities manage the details that are critical to a successful recovery.

Whether responding to a localized event or a large-scale disaster, we help communities restore critical services, move recovery forward, and build a strong foundation for reimbursement.

Project Spotlight: Roy Cumbest Bridge Replacement

Replacing a bridge over an active waterway requires the ability to solve complex challenges in real time.

For the Roy Cumbest Bridge project in Jackson County, Mississippi, our team provided design, and complete construction engineering and inspection for the Jackson County Board of Supervisors on a 1,350-foot bridge crossing the Pascagoula River.
During construction, the existing bridge remains in place as long as possible to serve as a critical access and staging point before being safely demolished, allowing work to move forward efficiently while minimizing disruption.

The new structure features prestressed girder spans, including longer spans across the main river channel, supported by drilled shaft foundations designed to address scour and in-river conditions.

Projects like this highlight how a coordinated team, bringing together design, field expertise, and construction support, delivers successful outcomes on complex bridge replacements.
