Mississippi Industries for the Blind

We provide training and employment for individuals who are blind or visually impaired, to facilitate independence and self-reliance in all aspects of their lives. It is the vision of Mississippi Industries for the Blind (MIB) to be the preferred employer of Mississippians who are blind or visually impaired throughout the whole state of Mississippi.

Today, MIB had productive meetings with our Senate delegation to discuss important aspects of the Ability One Program. We appreciate the support we receive from Senators Cindy Hyde-Smith and Roger Wicker. Their efforts significantly benefit Mississippians who are Blind.

Congratulations! To our Joe Spicer!

Congratulations! To our Joe Spicer!

Change starts with opportunity and grows through employment and advocacy.

From the archives of *Heard & Empowered*, we’re highlighting a conversation with Joe Spicer of Mississippi Industries for the Blind.

Joe shares how building and managing a contact center staffed by blind and visually impaired professionals is transforming lives. Because, with the right tools and access, talent can thrive. He also advocates on Capitol Hill for stronger investment in the AbilityOne Program, including a proposed 1% Department of Defense procurement goal to expand job opportunities, and calls for SSDI reforms that better support people who want to work without penalty.

Backed by the mission of the National Industries for the Blind and NSITE, Joe’s story highlights what’s possible when employment systems are built for access, dignity, and opportunity.

Several Mississippi Industries for the Blind (MIB) team members recently traveled to Washington, DC to proudly represent MIB at the NIB Conference & Expo. A highlight of the trip was celebrating our Employees of the Year, Linda Bennett and Mary Nichols, who were honored at the awards Banquet. During the conference, Joe Spicer, Donovan Beitel and Tripp Tutor also had the opportunity to visit with our elected government representatives on Capital Hill to help share the importance of the Ability One mission and the work being done by our employees who are blind. At the Expo, Cheri Russell and Tripp Tutor showcased products manufactured by our MIB team, giving attendees a chance to learn more about the quality products produced right here in Mississippi. Those attending the conference included Donovan Beitel, Cheri Russell, Tripp Tutor, Joe Spicer, Linda Bennett, and Mary Nichols. We were also proud to have a couple longtime MIB supporters pictured with the group, Herbert Humphrey and Cheryle Burrow, both longtime members of the MIB family who continue to support the mission. , ,
