What a beautiful turnout for Saturday’s Tiles for TaTas at Cuba Libre!

Around every table: conversation, laughter, and a little friendly competition. Players of all skill levels came together, and seeing so many women spend their afternoon supporting one another was the best part.

For our CEO Tamara Baker—a breast cancer survivor and Making Strides Executive Ambassador—this cause is deeply personal. Thank you to everyone who joined her in supporting the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

You’d never know it from the faces… but these engineers take dessert VERY seriously. 😂🎂

No jumping. No cheering. Just a room full of professionals patiently waiting for cake to be cut like there’s a project schedule attached to it.

This month we celebrated Bobby, Joe & Edwin — and each birthday guy got his favorite dessert.

They may look serious… but apparently, cake is where Baker Design Build draws the line. 😏

There is the diagnosis. There is treatment. And then there is everything that comes after.

In Part 2 of her story, Tamara opens up about reconstruction, the procedures that followed her mastectomy, and a chapter of her journey that people simply don’t talk about enough.

But her story takes another unexpected turn — one that brought her family something beautiful and, in a way she never could have anticipated, helped reveal something that otherwise may have gone unnoticed.

Survivorship has its own story, too.

There’s a whole lot happening underneath those giant blue brushes. 🫧

Baker Design Build’s work on Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA)’s Bus Wash Retrofit at the Myrtle Avenue Operations Campus started with a clear goal: replace the existing bus wash equipment with a more efficient system.

But this project had a few layers.

Water-reclamation pits were constructed beneath the wash bays to collect and reuse water. Reverse-osmosis systems and utility upgrades were incorporated into the work. Then underground fuel lines and old electrical conduits were discovered, bringing environmental remediation and water treatment into the equation.

And through it all, JTA’s transportation maintenance facility remained active.

That’s design-build in the real world: conditions change, solutions evolve and the work keeps moving.

There’s a lot more to Tamara Baker’s story than most people know.

As we head toward Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Tamara has decided to share more of that story — in her own words.

This is Part One.

Over the coming weeks, she’ll talk more about her experience, what those moments taught her, and why breast cancer awareness and advocacy have become such a personal part of the way she chooses to show up for others.

We’re beginning the story a little early because the opportunities to make an impact have already started.

On October 3, we’re gathering at Cuba Libre at Havana Jax for Tiles for Ta-Ta’s — an evening of mahjong, community, fun and fundraising for an incredibly important cause.

You don’t have to be a lifelong mahjong player or already have a group. Come enjoy the evening, meet some great people and help us turn awareness into action.

And as October unfolds, there will be more opportunities to support Tamara, hear more of her story and get involved.

There’s a reason we love a good before-and-after ➡️ we know someone gets to use the “after.”

Here, that someone might be a neighbor using a wheelchair, a grandparent walking with support, or a parent out with a stroller.

For the City of Jacksonville, Florida -’s curb ramp improvement program, our Baker team handles the engineering and accessibility design, prepares the construction plans, and puts our own crews to work building and reconstructing ramps. Traffic planning and quality inspections help us carry that work through with care.

These photos show that effort taking shape in Northside neighborhoods.

Jacksonville is home for us, too. It means something to put our skills to work on the everyday routes our neighbors rely on.
