We picked up over 100 pounds of trash and had 25 volunteers show up, ready to work!

Thank you to all of you who came out this past weekend for our Historic Springfield TreeWalks: Integrated Urban Ecology.

We had over 50 attendees come out to walk and talk with SPAR board member, and Landscape Architect, Daniel Ashworth! He shared some great examples of walkable streets and even a couple examples of not so walkable streets. We discussed in detail the benefits that the trees have on our urban design and the lived experience of the humans existing below their canopies.

Community Cleanup: Liberty Park

TOMORROW at 9AM, We will meet at Liberty Park (1938 N Liberty Street) and clean up the northeast quadrant of Springfield. Trash bags, gloves, and trash grabbers will be provided—just show up ready to help. Late arrivals are welcome, and any amount of time you can give is appreciated. A special thanks to our cleanup event volunteer partner Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and TerraWise Homes for sponsoring our 2026 Community Cleanups.

Big thanks to our everyone who came out to our Community Cleanup last weekend! we had 39 volunteers, which has to be the most that we have ever hosted at a non-porchfest cleanup!!! The work you did was indispensable and your investment in our community has surely been noticed.

The topic for today's walking tour is Urban Forestry & Tree Health. This tour will be facilitated by none other than the City of Jacksonville, Florida - Government's Urban Forestry Manager, Jonathan Colburn. We are excited to learn about the largest Urban Forest in the United States!
