It’s been a while since we posted anything. We have been in the enviable position that we haven’t had to advertise for work. And after twenty plus years of working on historic properties in Jacksonville, we are very fortunate to have been able to work for many great clients and on their wonderful projects

We have to be able to do a wide variety of skills to work on these old ladies, from making replacement capitals to building handicap ramps to allow an aging client to still enjoy her home. We now have access to a small independent mill shop for custom trim as well as dedicated suppliers that give us access to the best materials for the needs of historic renovation.

Our craftsmen have typically been with us years and new hires are done so with the idea that this is a long term relationship.

We are always looking for a dedicated craftsman to add to our team. If you think you would like to help us care for our clients’ homes, contact us for a interview.

Why does my wood siding melt?

"In wet climates, house wrap sometimes reacts poorly with certain kinds of wood siding. Lignin (a naturally occurring substance in many species of wood) is water soluble and acts as a detergent. Like all detergents, it decreases surface tension and destroys the house wrap’s ability to repel water. Research has shown that wood lignin makes it easier for liquid water to pass into the wall. Certain types of wood siding, such as redwood, cedar, and manufactured hardboard siding, seem to accelerate the problem. To avoid this problem, carefully attach heavy building paper (30-pound asphalt impregnated) to the walls as a substitute for house wrap. You also might consider installing felt paper over the house wrap as a water-repellent surface."

I do love teaching at AAA Construction School.

On Saturdays, it is contractor training -- general, builder and residential. And on Sundays -- business and finance. I meet so many people in the construction industry not only in Jacksonville, but from Orlando to Tallahassee. One thing I do know is that the construction industry is BOOMING here.

Lots of jobs for lots of people.

And, for what its worth, think I love teaching roofers the most. You've got to be a little crazy to be a roofer in Florida.

The home can be donated to a non-profit, sold to another party willing to restore, or mothballed by the current owner and rehabbed. We value o…
