When running in heat, your system may have ice on the outside unit and will go into defrost mode approximately every 60 to 90 minutes.  The fan will stop spinning, your heat strips will come on, and the air inside the house will be slightly cooler. This will last approximately five minutes, and then your system should go back to normal. Attached is a video showing defrost mode.

❄️ What’s Defrost Mode—and Why Is My System Blowing Cool Air in Winter? ❄️
If you have a heat pump, you might notice your system occasionally switch into defrost mode on cold days. Don’t worry—this is totally normal and actually protects your system.
When it’s cold outside, frost can build up on the outdoor unit. Defrost mode temporarily melts that frost so your system can keep running efficiently. During this short cycle, you may feel cooler air indoors or notice steam outside—that’s just the system doing its job.
