Behind every home that gets built the way it was designed, there is a structural engineer who made sure it was possible. Russell Rowland's job on this two-story residence in Panama City was making sure the structure could actually deliver on the design, engineered to code and built to last.

Florida projects like this one are a reminder that Russell Rowland's work extends well beyond Northeast Florida. From Jacksonville to Tampa to the Panhandle, we provide structural engineering for residential projects across the state.

Lifeline Landing in Green Cove Springs is a five lot affordable housing subdivision developed by Operation Lifeline Inc. for veterans and low-income families in Clay County. Russell Rowland provided structural engineering services for the project, alongside other local partners including NEFBA - Northeast Florida Builders Association Builders Care.

Operation Lifeline's mission is to strengthen the community with every home they build. We are glad to support that work with the structural engineering behind it.

June 1 marks the start of hurricane season in Florida, and it's one of the reasons structural engineering here looks different than in most of the country. In North Florida, building code requires a minimum of 130-140 mph windspeed for calculations. In South Florida, that number reaches 180 mph.

When Russell Rowland engineers a new home, the structural plan accounts for the specific wind speed requirements of that location and specifies the materials and connections needed to meet or exceed the Florida building code.

Full breakdown in our latest blog. Link in the comments.

Before a foundation is poured or a framing crew arrives, months of work have already been completed. This lot is a good example of what that looks like.

Before a single shovel breaks ground, the builder, structural engineer, and architect have already exchanged hundreds of decisions. Structural systems have been selected to match the specific demands of the site, the floor plan, and Florida's building code requirements. Russell Rowland's work on this project was largely done before this photo was ever taken.

Most people see an empty lot. We see a finished set of engineered drawings ready to be brought to life by Glenn Layton Homes.

Russell Rowland provided structural engineering for this retail center in Jacksonville Beach, where the team was responsible for the design of the tower and facade. Located just blocks from the Atlantic, this Jacksonville Beach storefront brings new retail and dining space to a growing coastal community.

Today marks another trip around the sun for Drew Quinn. Drew joined Russell Rowland full-time after graduating from Florida State University with his Civil Engineering degree, and he has been a strong contributor to the team's residential project work ever since. Outside the office, Drew channels his hands-on side into woodworking and working on cars. Happy Birthday, Drew!

Russell Rowland CEO and President Jackie Rowland was recognized last week as a member of the Jacksonville Business Journal's 2026 40 Under 40 class at the awards event held at the Hilton Jacksonville Mayo Clinic Area.

The 40 Under 40 program recognizes professionals across Northeast Florida who are making a meaningful impact in their industries and communities. Jackie's recognition reflects the trajectory she has built at Russell Rowland and her broader contributions to the regional building industry through her leadership roles with National Association of Home Builders, Florida Home Builders Association, and NEFBA - Northeast Florida Builders Association.

At the event, Jackie reflected on her journey: "I think my childhood self would be surprised at what I did. I don't know that I ever imagined being a business owner. Being an engineer, I think is kind of expected. But the fact that I would branch out on my own, and then our company and myself, we've been able to really make ourselves known within the Jacksonville community. I'm really proud of that because it's my hometown."

Congratulations, Jackie. This one is well deserved.

The 6th Annual NEFBA - Northeast Florida Builders Association Professional Women in Building Duck Race brought out families, builders, and industry partners to the RiverTown Community RiverLodge in St. Johns.

Supporting the next generation, the event raised funds for STEM projects for local elementary students, and Russell Rowland was glad to participate as a sponsor. Rubber ducks racing a lazy river might be the most uniquely Florida way to support STEM education, and we were happy to be part of it.

Congratulations to NEFBA PWB on another successful event.

A waterfront lot sets a high bar and this two-story home by Shoreline Construction Jax is exceeding it.

With a covered porch, flanking wings, and a garage bay spread across a wide footprint, the structural coordination on this one went well beyond a straightforward residential design. Russell Rowland provided the engineering to bring it all together.

On May 20, NEFBA - Northeast Florida Builders Association's St. Johns Builders Council presented Pedro Menendez High School's Academy of Architectural Design and Technology with a $10,000 check to fund a classroom renovation at the Master Builder sponsorship level.

Russell Rowland's Matt Green serves on the advisory board of the Academy of Architectural Design and Technology at Pedro Menendez High School and brought the sponsorship opportunity to Jackie Rowland's attention. Jackie, who serves on the St. Johns Builders Council, presented the opportunity to the council and members came together to donate the full $10,000 contribution. The gift will support students pursuing careers in architecture, engineering, and construction and name the design lab in the council's honor.

The building industry runs on the next generation of talent. We are glad to have played a part in investing in them.
