✨ Employee Spotlight: Elizabeth LaPan ✨
Meet Elizabeth LaPan, our Accounting Manager at D.D. Bean & Sons!
Elizabeth has been part of the Bean family for about 5 years, beginning in Accounts Receivable in 2019 before working through commodity sales and Accounts Payable. In 2024, she stepped into her current role as Accounting Manager, bringing dedication, leadership, and a passion for growth to the team every day.
When asked about her favorite part of the job, Elizabeth shared that it’s the people and relationships she’s built along the way.
“The environment in this office is unlike most. You hear laughter, stories of family times, and collaboration! I love interacting with our vendors and customers. You’ll often hear me say, ‘We’re making history,’ because I firmly believe D.D. Bean/Atlas Match is the past and future of matches.”
One of her favorite memories was traveling to Texas with the team to finally meet customer service representatives she had worked with for years over email and phone. And of course, there’s also the unforgettable April Fool’s prank involving a “Made in Mexico” matchbook… IYKYK 😉
Elizabeth is constantly working toward becoming a stronger manager, expanding her understanding of supply chain development, and continuing her education in accounting — all while striving to be the best mom possible ❤️
Outside of work, you’ll find her cheering from the sidelines at soccer games or spending time with friends and family.

For nearly 36 years, Paul Ferrell has been part of the story at D.D. Bean and along the way, he’s become part of what makes the Bean feel like family.
As a member of the Graphics Team, Paul helps customers prepare and set up their Matchbooks, Matchboxes, and Coasters, making sure every project is ready to move from idea to finished product. But ask Paul what has kept him here all these years, and the answer comes quickly: the people. “My co-workers. It makes a huge difference when you have real affection for the people you have worked with for so long.”
Over nearly four decades, Paul has seen the company through just about everything imaginable; “from fires to floods,” as he puts it. Through every challenge and every milestone, the friendships built inside these walls have remained constant.
One memory stands out above the rest. Early in his career, Paul worked alongside Dave Burrows, a respected Flexographer who became both a mentor and a friend.
“He taught me everything I know and most of what I forgot,” Paul jokes.
Before Dave left the company in the 1990s, he placed a small keepsake in the pump well. Paul has quietly looked after it ever since — a simple reminder of the people, lessons, and history that become woven into a place after decades of dedication.
These days, Paul says he’s working toward “a comfortable and uneventful end,” carrying the same steady sense of humor that coworkers know and appreciate. Outside of work, his favorite moments are spent with his son, his siblings, and Ash whenever he can.
Paul’s story is more than a career timeline, it’s a reflection of loyalty, craftsmanship, friendship, and the generations of people who help make D.D. Bean & Sons what it is today.

At D.D. Bean & Sons, we’re proud to recognize the dedicated individuals who help keep our operation running strong. This week, we’re shining the spotlight on Clifford Parhiala, a true cornerstone of our team.
Cliff plays a critical role behind the scenes, focused on crafting the best matchhead composition possible. His work supports multiple production operations each day, requiring precision, adaptability, and a deep understanding of how even the smallest adjustments can make a big impact, especially as seasonal changes come into play. It’s a level of expertise that only comes with time… With an incredible 44 years and 8 months at D.D. Bean, Cliff’s dedication and consistency speaks volumes.
When asked about his favorite part of the job, Cliff appreciates the ability to work independently and stay focused on his craft. It’s clear he takes pride in what he does every single day. One of his standout memories includes a visit from a TV crew; what was supposed to be straightforward filming turned into a memorable and humorous moment when plans shifted, resulting in an unexpected (and entertaining) outcome; when Delcie had to stand in for me and demonstrated how match head comp was safe. Outside of work, Cliff is just as disciplined. He’s currently on an impressive daily exercise streak of over 3,400 days, approaching the 10-year mark. That kind of commitment is no small feat. He also enjoys spending time learning and diving into topics that challenge him to keep growing.
Cliff’s steady presence, knowledge, and work ethic make him an invaluable part of the D.D. Bean family. Thank you, Cliff, for your decades of dedication and the pride you bring to your work every day!

We were honored to have the team from WMUR-TV's NH Chronicle visit our Jaffrey Plant to see how we make millions of matchbooks every single day.

As the only remaining paper match manufacturer in the United States, we take immense pride in carrying on a tradition that started right here in 1938. From huge rolls of paper, making the classic matchbooks, you find at gas stations and restaurants, it’s a "striking" process we’ve perfected over 85 years.
