Built for the woods.

Hand forged from 1095 high-carbon steel, then blackened and stonewashed for a worn, no-nonsense finish. Curly maple scales finished dark with brass pins complete the handle.

Nothing fancy. Just steel, wood, fire, and a knife made to work.

July 2026 Update:

Me:

Well, some on you know, but most don’t, that I had knee surgery last week. It definitely brought things to a halt around the house and shop.

I’m doing much better since I started PT Monday. I think I’ll be able to get out in the shop Saturday Lord willing. I also hope to get these stitches out in the morning. That will make my range of motion much easier.

The forge:

I have four knives that I need to finish shaping the handles on and they’ll be ready to ship out. Thank you all for being patient.

There are 2 slots available for custom knives and 2 slots available for flintlocks.

Meet the Smith

My name is Billy Elswick.

I founded Black Warrior Longri**es & Forge because I believe traditional American craftsmanship deserves to be preserved.

Every knife, tool, and flintlock I build is made one at a time using traditional methods—not assembly lines or shortcuts.

I don’t strive to build the most.

I strive to build pieces worthy of being handed to your children and grandchildren.

Whether it’s a hunting knife carried every fall or a Pennsylvania longrifle displayed over the fireplace, my goal is simple:

Build something that outlives me.

God has blessed me with the opportunity to continue a trade that helped build America, and I consider every commission a privilege.

Cigar of the day is a Crown Head. Great cigar.

I know I’ve been fairly quiet this month. I’ve had a lot going on.

Got a lot of things coming up (like knee surgery) that is putting a damper on my work in the shop.

I currently finishing up four knives for some customers and two are heading back here from getting some outstanding sheathed made by 1776 Leathers. Take a look at the below.

I have 6 open custom knife slots available for July. If you have something in mind that you want forged, give me a holler and we’ll get it made for ya.
