Merry Christmas and Happy New Year To All

Curbside garbage collection is scheduled to resume on Monday, September 6th. Due to the impacts of Hurricane Ida in the area, collection will be limited to material placed in Parish issued tipper carts. Collection may not occur on your regularly scheduled day. We are asking residents for continued patience as some streets may not yet be passible or safe enough to provide routine service.

Curbside debris removal of large tree debris is also scheduled to commence on Monday, September 6th. We ask for the public’s assistance to facilitate operations. Please separate debris that is put out at the road by type. One pile should be tree limbs, branches, and tree trunks. The other pile should be fence boards, siding, furniture, etc. Storm debris should not be placed near your tipper cart; bagged waste should not be comingled with your storm debris, as it cannot be collected by storm debris contractors.

All residential drop-off sites, with the exception of the Lafitte drop-off site, will reopen to the public on Tuesday, September 7th.

Curbside recycling is suspended until further notice.

The debris removal mission will be lengthy process. We ask all residents in unincorporated Jefferson to partner with us in restoring the Parish to its pre-storm state. Your cooperation enables us to complete the process in the quickest, safest and most efficient manner possible.

Once a major storm has passed, the Department of Environmental Affairs response plan includes the following:

- Re-establishing normal household garbage and food waste collection is our first priority.

- It may be more than 2 weeks before the first collection of storm debris (vegetation and building material) is provided in your neighborhood

-Clean vegetation/tree debris only will be collected on the first pass through each neighborhood, construction debris and mixed loads will be collected on subsequent passes.

-Please do not call and ask that trucks be pulled from scheduled routes to pick up your own debris first. Deviation from carefully planned routes causes delays in the entire process and creates a burden on those with the greatest need.
