Ever wondered if snakes can cause power outages? They can! Our linemen have to be prepared for those encounters in the field. 🐍⚡
During a monthly safety meeting at Jackson EMC, Southeastern Reptile Rescue spoke to our crews for a hands-on safety training. Crews learned how to identify common snake species, understand their behavior and respond safely while working in the field.
To make the training realistic, crews got an up-close look at snakes commonly found across our service area, including a rattlesnake, copperhead, cottonmouth and rat snake.
“Anytime we can give our employees practical, real-world knowledge that helps them stay safe in the field, it’s worth the investment,” said Stephen Poole, director of safety and training.
Safety is about preparing for every condition crews may face even the scaley ones.
