🌦️ East Tennessee weather keeping everyone on their toes!
One day it’s in the 70s… two days later we’re waking up to temps in the 20s. When the weather swings back and forth like this, your HVAC system has to work overtime to keep up.
Here are a few simple ways to keep your system running efficiently during these temperature swings:
✅ Change your air filter – A dirty filter makes your system work harder and reduces airflow.
✅ Don’t constantly adjust the thermostat – Large swings in temperature settings can make your system run longer than needed.
✅ Key components wear down faster when shifting unit back and forth-
The valve that switches your system from heat to cool is not made to be going back and forth multiple times a day , like any part the more it does it wears and is more likely to get stuck and effect your system
These wild weather shifts are tough on HVAC systems, but a little maintenance goes a long way in keeping your home comfortable and your energy bills down.

Here at BigBoys , we like doing fun facts for homeowners that we feel people just don’t talk about a lot so speaking of that,
❄️ HVAC Fun Fact
Turning your thermostat way down does NOT cool your house faster. It may get colder but the air coming out of your vents will consistently be the same temps maybe vary by a few degrees,
Your AC system cools at the same speed no matter what temperature you set. Setting it to 60° instead of 70 just makes the system run longer.
💡 Example:
A typical home AC might use around 3–5 kWh of electricity per hour while running.
• If it runs 8 hours normally → about 24–40 kWh
• If the thermostat keeps getting turned way down and the system runs 12 hours instead → about 36–60 kWh
That’s up to 50% more energy for the same comfort.
✅ Best tip:
Pick a comfortable temperature and leave it there instead of constantly changing it.
