3d stuff is fun. I put a little time into a 3d tour of a design, but this is very rough (see partial people), very quick (camera slamming into walls), and incomplete, so no complaints at this time. It would be fun to do a real presentation of this.

I was recently asked to generate a revised master plan for a previous client. Although “retired” the project sounded like an interesting challenge. An intense schedule of meetings and design time was sandwiched between camper trips to and from the Florida site. Outcome: happy client.

This is one of the last projects to finish up since I stopped taking on new work 4/23. Architectural work can be very slow. This client signed up 6-1/2 years ago; the plan has undergone significant revisions 2 or 3 times, and it is just now finishing up. This is an extraordinarily complex project. It is a 25,000 sq ft addiction treatment center in Pittsburg, Kansas with sleeping space for 20 men, 10 women and crisis care for 4 more clients. This is not a "lockup" condition, but the choice to come here for treatment is the only alternative to a jail sentence for many of the clients. This is built with anti-ligature elements in many spaces and special other building elements to try to eliminate the ability to commit self-harm. The crisis center is physically separated and most areas are secure from public access or observation. We were juggling a lot of difficult issues while developing the plan, but the client is happy with the result. Today's visit was about the last time to see the building before they begin admitting clients and public access becomes highly controlled.

This was a scale model of the campus that I designed for Central Florida Bible College which expanded to Florida Christian College later. It was eventually consolidated with Johnson Bible College for a while and Johnson University more recently. Model on top; real life below.

First Christian, Salem, IL was an early Goodman project long before I started working there in ‘72, visible on the right in this new drone photo. Not long after, I was privileged to design to big classroom addition in the middle, and years later designed the fellowship addition on the left in the photo.

I just found this image; Google StreetView is amazing, almost like being there. A few years ago I was asked to design a small addition to this church in Hastings, NE. There had been a shallow recess in the front that is now filled in to double the size of their foyer. Google shows how nice the solution turned out.

On another page, there is a discussion about the advantages (or not) of “open plan” homes. A couple of years ago, I designed an addition to a truck dock (right half of this photo). The company went bankrupt; it’s basically a roof on columns. Maybe someone could repurpose it as an “open plan” home!

It's amazing to see these projects becoming reality. I draw a bunch of lines, the structural engineer adds some, the HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing engineers add more lines, then the fire sprinkler system guys and the low-voltage (data, computer stuff) add even more. It's a mess behind the walls and above the ceilings. Brett Cares at Crossland is putting it all together nicely.

The other last job in the Joplin area was new storage space for a local office supply. Again, we had to jump through a bunch of hoops to satisfy the city, but the project is complete now.

One of my last jobs in the Joplin area is a V**e shop. As with nearly every simple I file renovations, the city had issues, but we got them resolved.

The new Pfeiffer Ehling Treatment Center in Pittsburg, KS is finally taking shape. Walls are going up inside and out, while at the same time, roofing materials are being added. The job superintendent says windows will be arriving soon and it shouldn't be too long before the structure is weathered in. The large cement block room will serve as classroom, consultation space and, when needed, storm shelter. The small separate roofed area will be in a grassed, fenced yard where clients can enjoy some fresh air, visit pet dogs, and have a cigarette.

The drive-through vaccination station / Mobile Health Clinic RV storage garage is finished now. Looks pretty nice, I'd say. Glad to have a hand in the design and drafting on this for a repeat client. In the second image, the large red block part on the right is the first addition we did a few years ago to double the size of this county health center in Crawford County Kansas.
