Pacific Biodiesel Technologies

Pacific Biodiesel Technologies Hawaii's only commercial producer of liquid biofuels. Our 100% renewable biodiesel is helping Hawaii

Founded in 1995, Pacific Biodiesel is Hawaii's award-winning and internationally recognized producer of renewable fuels and the only commercial producer of liquid biofuels in the state. This Maui-based company established and operated the very first retail biodiesel pump in America and for the past two decades has built a solid reputation as a leading pioneer in the renewable energy industry. Thro

ughout its history, Pacific Biodiesel's mission has remained constant: to promote a clean, sustainable energy future through the community-based production of renewable fuels. Today, with more than 80 employees statewide, Pacific Biodiesel excels in constructing and operating biodiesel processing plants, advancing process technology, and producing and marketing quality fuels. The company is also involved in many sustainable agriculture-related projects - including testing sunflowers in Hawaii as a potential year-round feedstock for producing biodiesel and exploring innovative ways to turn agriculture waste into useful products that can create new revenue streams for farmers, such as recycling waste papaya to grow algae for use as local aquaculture and livestock feed. With a nameplate production capacity of 5.5 million gallons annually, Pacific Biodiesel's Big Island plant utilizes state-of-the art distillation technology to produce the highest-quality biodiesel in the country. On Earth Day 2016, this refinery became the first biodiesel facility in the world to earn certification by the Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance for showcasing sustainable biodiesel production and distribution practices.

“What does leadership in your industry and business mean to you?”

This was one of the topics our co-founder Kelly King addressed during a June 3rd visit from the Agricultural Leadership Program (ALP) Class XIX to our Central Maui farm. Participants were accompanied by Agricultural Leadership Foundation of Hawai’i (ALFH) Executive Director Christine Brammer and Program Manager Sarah Voigt.

The foundation has been helping to develop agricultural leaders for Hawai‘i since 1982, graduating more than 200 people who are positively impacting Hawai‘i agriculture and their communities. Pacific Biodiesel previously hosted an ALP class two years ago. It was our pleasure to welcome them to our fields and share about our regenerative farming practices, business successes and challenges, important industry policies and much more.

Mahalo to ALFH for including Pacific Biodiesel in your Maui itinerary!

In honor of World Ocean Day, we're looking back on a beach cleanup off Stable Road in Spreckelsville this past weekend. We all had a great time together, cleaned up a lot of debris and even got to share in some special sunflower donuts crafted by featuring our sister brand, 🌻🍩

Mahalo to our client for organizing this event and choosing renewable, locally made biodiesel to fuel their boats out on the water!

🌎 World Environment Day is a reminder that small actions can create lasting impact — especially when communities work together. Looking for meaningful ways to make a difference? Here are 5 simple but impactful actions you can start today:

1️⃣ Recycle your household cooking oil
Instead of pouring used oil down the drain or into the trash, recycle it when possible. Recycled cooking oil can be transformed into renewable biodiesel fuel, helping reduce waste and greenhouse gas emissions.

2️⃣ Choose renewable fuels whenever possible
Using biodiesel in any diesel engine helps reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels while supporting cleaner-burning, locally produced energy solutions.

3️⃣ Buy products grown and made locally
Supporting local agriculture and local businesses helps reduce transportation emissions and strengthens Hawaiʻi’s food and energy security.

4️⃣ Compost more than just food scraps
Yard clippings, cardboard, untreated paper, and natural materials can often be composted instead of sent to the landfill — helping create healthier soil and reducing methane emissions.

5️⃣ Think about waste before you create it
One of the most sustainable habits is reducing unnecessary consumption altogether. Repair, reuse, refill, and repurpose whenever possible before throwing things away.

At Pacific Biodiesel, we believe sustainability starts with everyday choices that support a circular economy and a healthier future for Hawaiʻi. 🌱

It’s always our honor to be part of the Hawai’i Energy Conference, and our co-founder Bob King was on the panel this year, speaking on topics like the renewable fuel supply for Hawai’i.

Presented by Maui Economic Development Board (MEDB), with support by the County of Maui, the conference brings together leaders, policymakers, cooperatives and energy innovators.

“Every year the energy stakes are evolving and the conversations at the Hawai’i Energy Conference keep up,” explains Jennifer Potter, HEC program committee member and panel moderator. “What we were debating 5 to 10 years ago, like the early RPS goals, is now shifted into how we actually do it.”

Mahalo to HEC for keeping this important issues top of mind as we move forward!

As diesel prices across Hawaiʻi continue to climb — with current statewide averages nearing or exceeding $7.00 per gallon for conventional diesel — biodiesel remains a cleaner, locally produced renewable fuel alternative.

Current B99 biodiesel pricing from Pacific Biodiesel:
• Maui – $5.99/gal
• Kauaʻi – $5.99/gal
• Oʻahu – $6.08/gal
• Hawaiʻi Island – Honokohau Harbor: $5.99/gal
• Hawai‘i Island - Pacific Biodiesel Refinery in Keaʻau: $5.84/gal

Our professionally filtered and quality-tested B99 biodiesel is produced locally using recycled cooking oil and sustainable agricultural feedstocks. By choosing biodiesel, customers help support Hawaiʻi’s energy security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and strengthen the state’s circular economy through renewable fuel production.
