Fun fact: steel has something called 'memory'. Bend it cold, and it wants to spring back toward its original shape. That's exactly why we heat it before shaping most of our pieces. Heat lets us move the steel where we want it to go instead of fighting it the whole way.
It's a small detail, but it's the difference between a piece that holds its shape for decades and one that doesn't.
