PSA - Powersports motors cannot go as long as your car without checking your valve clearances. On this 2025 CanAm Defender HD10 it’s every 1800 miles or if you hear valve noise.

How long has it been for your machine? Probably too long… LOL Check your owners manual for valve check intervals.

Some of today’s work. While I do say “if it’s a toy and has a motor, I work on it”, motorcycle’s are my favorite, especially when it requires some welding 👨🏻‍🏭

Customer’s new tank came with the wrong brackets, so I made ones to his specifications and welded them on for him. Can’t wait to see his completed project!

For the Fridays I head up to SLC for Utah Air National Guard weekend (5 1/2 hr drive) I need to stop planning to have a chill morning before I go. “I’m just going to go in and clean/organize”…yeah right 🤣

Rolled up to my shop and this guy and its owners were waiting for me. Two snapped rear axles and a burnt belt… “most expensive bridge crossing I’ve ever had” he said. Crossed a metal ATV/UTV bridge but the rear clearance was negative and the rear wheels got stuck. He gunned it trying to get unstuck. Fist came the smoke out of the belt housing… then SNACK goes the rear cv axles ☠️.

They were from out of town and had a few more days of rides they were planning on. So I called around to parts places in Page and Saint George. Finally found two in stock at MotoUnited in STG - they’re always super helpful (can’t find their FB to tag them…) They left the machine with me, while I got it ready for new axles and changed the belt, they ran to get the new ones.

Even on crazy days I’ll do whatever I can to help out!

This morning’s work - sat all winter without being winterized. Carb was gunked and buggered from whoever serviced it last. New pilot jet (last one was ate up), new bowl gasket, cleaned out, and tweaked the idle air-fuel mixture screw. Starts right up 😎

You’ll notice this is in someone’s garage, I do offer mobile repairs and services. Sure makes it convenient instead of hauling your toy to my shop!

This is what happens when the rest of the party misses the boulder coming off of a banked turn but you decide to take it head on 😬

Passenger front end destroyed. CV axle, tie rod, upper and lower control arms, ripped the top control arm out of the knuckle, and crushed the brake line.

Had to tear down all the plastics on the front end to get to the brake line.

But it’s back in action!

Nothing like the smell of carb cleaner to end the day! Customer brought this in after two years of sitting and bad gas. Cleaned the carb out and got the red dirt out of the air filter housing. Starts right up!

At Minuteman Powersports I specialize in toys with motors but sometimes the support equipment for your adventures need some support too.

Had an incredible experience this morning with Jay of PRP Seats - I’ve seen PRP around and seen this machine being towed around Kanab, UT this week, had no idea I was working on the machine of the owner of PRP and bs-ing with him, until he told me, LOL. He and his wife are awesome.

They came in before I opened hoping I could help them with broken wheel studs that came off on trail for their Segway SXS (https://www.segwaypowersports.us/) - what a beast of a machine! So cool 😎

After removing the hub and replacing the wheel studs we were able to get them back on the trail! That was really a great start to the day 🛠️

PSA: With it warming up and the motorcycles out on the road (including myself) I just want to remind everyone that lane filtering (not lane splitting) is LEGAL in Utah.

So please don’t be a hater and open your doors or move over so to keep riders like myself from filtering to the front. The purpose is to get us out of every one’s way so we don’t get squished in the event someone doesn’t see us sitting behind another vehicle.

Another full service before the season gets crazy! Remember to check your owners manuals for service intervals for your machines. Powersports are not like your cars that can go 3-5k on engine oils or 30-60k miles on transmission and differential fluids. Most Powersports you’re lucky the engine lasts 30k miles. Ones like this 2016 Honda Pioneer need engine oil every 100 hours or 600 miles. Trans, sub trans, and differentials 200 hours to 1200 miles. You take care of your machine and your machine will take care of you!

Mavheim Forge is now Minuteman Powersports (www.minutemanpowersports.com) in Kanab, behind Don Betos, and next to Expedition Kanab. I’m a little hidden back here but the location is quite convenient in the center of town.
