🚧 Building KC’s Future, One Project at a Time! 🌟
Big things are happening in Kansas City as we prepare for the World Cup and beyond. Here’s what City Manager Brian Platt had to say at the KC Downtowners event yesterday:
1️⃣ Park Over the Highway:
Construction for the new park over I-670 is ramping up, with groundbreaking expected in March! While it’s no small feat to build a park on a highway, work is already underway with underground investigations and environmental prep. The goal? To have key sections ready for the World Cup—possibly with green spaces, concerts, and soccer activations.
🛑 Will construction pause for the World Cup? Likely not! While it may mean some road closures, the city is focused on keeping costs down and delivering results for taxpayers.
2️⃣ North Loop Vision:
Transforming the North Loop by removing highways is a long-term idea, but Brian emphasized practicality: Why spend billions to create developable land when nearby surface lots are ready to go? Once downtown reaches its full potential, this project may gain momentum.
3️⃣ Resilient Local Leadership:
Brian highlighted KC’s independence from federal funding fluctuations:
• Local funds power most projects.
• Federal grants enhance growth but don’t dictate city priorities.
KC is also committed to being a leader in diversity, equity, and inclusion. From supporting minority-owned businesses to creating safe, inclusive spaces for all, the city is pushing forward—no matter the challenges.
With the World Cup around the corner and KC’s vision for a brighter, more inclusive future, the city is showing what it means to lead with innovation and community at heart. 💪
