The Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center has put together a 16-page report addressing the intensity and extent of wildfires across the Western States. This report identifies areas of concern regarding flammable highway materials, such as HDPE products, and suggests replacing them with less flammable materials like concrete and steel. With the replacement of these flammable materials, the extent and severity of damage would decrease as well as reduce the amount of cost to repair these highways. Ultimately, using less flammable products would allow our highways to return to a usable state faster and more cost-effectively.
