The Improve I-70 Kansas City project team is in the middle of a major girder operation, setting six girders across six spans for the new westbound lanes of I-70 leading into the Benton Curve.

The girders stretch nearly 160 feet in length, with individual girders weighing in at more than 150,000 pounds. Crews are using two cranes working together to safely maneuver the massive girders within an extremely tight workspace bordered by active highway lanes, power lines, the neighboring USPS facility, and railroad tracks.

By the end of the week, 36 new girders will be set and another major piece of the new I-70 corridor will be taking shape. Great work to everyone involved in the planning, coordination, and precision it takes to safely pull off lifts like these!

Over the weekend, we welcomed Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City to the Improve I-70 Kansas City project for a behind-the-scenes look at careers in construction. Attendees saw bridge progress underway at the Benton Curve, watched girder installation along 18th and Indiana, and had the chance to ask our team questions along the way.

A special thanks to Kurt Cook, Bridge Superintendent (and a former Big Brother himself!), for leading Saturday's tour. With nearly three decades of experience at Clarkson, Kurt had plenty of great insight to share about the work happening on site, his career path, and advice for students interested in the industry.

After the tour, we headed back to Clarkson's Crossroads office for lunch and conversations with members of our project management, traffic management, and field supervision teams. Each shared their career path, what their role looks like day-to-day, how they contribute to our projects, and lessons they've learned along the way.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered part of their Saturday to make the experience so personal and engaging! We love opportunities like this to give students an up-close look at our industry.

This 1962 ad from The Kansas City Star said it best: "Throughout the past...and into the future...Clarkson is one of Kansas City's leaders in heavy construction!"

More than 60 years later, and now in our 6th generation of family leadership, those words still ring true. We're proud to continue building the roads, bridges, and infrastructure that keep our region connected and moving forward.

Kansas City has been our home since 1880, and we're proud to continue building its future!

Yesterday, project partners and community members came together to celebrate an exciting milestone on the Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville project with a special "ribbon-joining" ceremony β€” a fitting way to mark the reopening of a bridge that reconnects the north and south sides of Warrenton!

Work on the bridge replacement began in late March, and in just a few months, the Improve 70 Alliance team delivered a new structure that restores this important connection for residents, business, and services throughout the community.

The new bridge also features a pedestrian pathway, along with enhanced lighting, railing, and other aesthetic elements provided by the City of Warrenton.

Clarkson is proud to be part of the Improve 70 Alliance alongside Emery Sapp & Sons, Bartlett & West, and HNTB as we continue making progress along the project corridor! Congratulations to everyone who helped bring this important connection back to the Warrenton community.

There's a lot happening on I-70 between Warrenton and Wentzville!

Across the Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville project corridor, crews have been busy building Type C median barrier (pictured here!), trimming base rock, placing bridge decks, widening shoulders, restriping ramps, machine paving, and more as the project continues to take shape.

And another big milestone is just around the corner: the new Route 47 bridge in Warrenton is set to open soon! The bridge will reconnect the north and south sides of the city and includes a new pedestrian pathway, along with lighting, railing, and other aesthetic enhancements.

The Missouri Department of Transportation and design-build team will celebrate the new bridge this Monday, 8/17, with a ribbon cutting ceremony!

Great news, Warrensburg! The U.S. Route 50 Safety & Operational Improvements Project in Johnson County, Missouri, is complete, delivering important upgrades to help make this busy corridor safer and better equipped for current and future travel.

Improvements included new J-turns and intersection modifications designed to reduce conflict points and help prevent serious crashes, particularly right-angle crashes, along U.S. 50.

A big thank you to our crews, project partners, and everyone who helped bring this project across the finish line safely and successfully β€” and thank you to the Warrensburg community and traveling public for your patience throughout construction!

Last week, the Clarkson-Radmacher Joint Venture welcomed The Builders AGC to Clarkson's Crossroads office for its monthly Lunch & Learn.

MoDOT Kansas City Project Director James Pflum provided an inside look at the Improve I-70 Kansas City project, covering everything from the project's history and progress to date to planned improvements throughout the corridor and the scheduled 11-month closure in 2027.

We had a great turnout and even better questions and conversation throughout the presentation. Thanks to everyone who joined and to James for sharing his insight!
