Safety is ALWAYS Number 1! Safety stands with the product being designed well! If the equipment you are using is not really well built to be able to handle super extreme conditions there is nothing the operator can do to make it safe except throw it away! So it all starts with using high quality equipment and materials that are built to handle more than you can throw at them. Next is having all of your safety gear on. You won't be the same tough guy with only one eye! Next always be aware of your surroundings. We had a good post this week that serves as a good reminder here. It was a guy cutting out a slab in a parking lot. Seems pretty safe except there was a huge hidden hollow area under the slab and he and the saw were on the inside of the slab. If the width had been another four inches he maybe would have lost his legs by having them crushed under the weight of his walk behind saw. Lastly, use the equipment correctly! The example I want to use here has to do with wire sawing. Use the appropriate length crimps. I've heard of people using the wrong crimps which were too short and the wire came apart at the crimp. it was with someone else's wire but this is extremely dangerous. The guy was hurt but could have easily been killed. He was 15 meters away from the wire at the time and it was still bad! Stay safe guys and keep cutting!

Re: Difference between Electroplated and Sintered EXCAL WIRE!

With sintered the diamonds are mixed in throughout the special powder matrix that when it's heated and compressed the powder changes to it's solid metal form. People often use the chocolate chip cookie analogy which is making me hungry. As an aside I think chocolate and peanut butter are the base of the food pyramid. For electroplated wire electrical current and electrodes are used to cause the diamonds to bond strongly and very tightly to the surface of the bead. In this case there is more of the diamond that is exposed at the point of contact with what you are cutting so the diamonds cut more aggressively but once they are gone and worn down they are gone and worn down. Therefore it cuts faster but is not as long lasting as sintered wire. EXCAL WIRE sells both Electroplated and Sintered wire in a variety of types and with a variety of options!
