This one's a good example of why we always pull the registers before we start.
Got called out to a home in Katy this week — the homeowner said the AC had been running fine but they'd noticed more dust on surfaces lately and their daughter's allergies had been rough all spring. When we opened things up, this is what we found inside the ducts. The registers themselves had mold spotting on several of them, and the flexible duct runs had years of compacted debris along the interior walls.
We cleaned the full system — 12 registers washed down, duct interiors brushed and vacuumed end to end, plenum cleared out. The difference in airflow after is noticeable immediately.
Katy homes, especially ones built in the 2000s and 2010s with flex duct throughout the attic, tend to accumulate faster than most people expect. The heat up there drives humidity into the duct walls during cooling cycles, and the debris doesn't just sit dry — it gets sticky and packs in.
If it's been more than a few years, or you've moved into a home and don't know the history, give us a call. We'll tell you what we find before we quote anything.
