Join us for the Buzz Hair Lecture, presented by Russ J. Joffrion, P.E. of Moffatt & Nichol:

Louisiana Gulf Coast Marsh Restoration: 20 Years

This special session honors the memory of Buzz Hair, a dedicated ASCE member whose contributions to the engineering profession continue to be remembered by the New Orleans engineering community. Following his tragic passing in 2000 while traveling for a conference presentation, the Geotechnical Group of New Orleans established this annual lecture series to recognize his legacy.

Russ J. Joffrion will share insights from more than two decades of marsh restoration efforts across Louisiana's Gulf Coast. The presentation will explore the challenges and successes associated with restoring coastal marshes using both sandy and fine-grained sediments, and how evolving design practices have helped improve the implementation of restoration projects throughout the region.

Buzz Hair's dedication to the engineering profession and commitment to sharing knowledge continue to inspire our community, and this lecture honors the lasting impact he made on those around him.

Join us for the Herbert J. Roussel Lecture, presented by Sharon Bradshaw of GIS Engineering:

Structural Anchorage Design

This special session honors the legacy of Dr. Herbert J. Roussel, Jr., one of the founding members of the Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) New Orleans Chapter who served on its Executive Committee from 1991 to 2005. Since 2006, the chapter has selected a distinguished presenter each year to deliver this premier structural engineering lecture.

Sharon Bradshaw will discuss key considerations in structural anchorage design, including code requirements, post-installed reinforcing bars, quality assurance, and inspection practices. Attendees will gain practical insights into the technical and regulatory aspects of designing safe, code-compliant anchorage systems.

Dr. Roussel's commitment to advancing structural engineering and his support of the SEI New Orleans Chapter continue to inspire our profession, and this lecture celebrates his lasting legacy.
