Live update 11/28/25:

Location: Garretsville, Ohio waiting to begin our winter Journey.

Status: Post thankful but thankful, nonetheless.

Distance traveled: 0 miles

We’ve had a string of less than good luck, but we’re ok. I recently purchased a 12’ X 6’ enclosed, dual axle trailer to haul my Harley, bicycles, and allow better access to stuff I’m often digging through storage compartments looking for. I decided to delay our departure for PA to make a few repairs to our Mothership, organize the trailer, wait out a snowstorm we saw coming and then hit the road as it should clear up next week. So much for avoiding the snow :-(

Our furnace went down on Tuesday ($688) and we got hit with at least 6" of snow. I was driving back from a friend's house last night when it hit. We've had rain for a few days, so it made ice really quick and I lost control and went in a ditch in a little town called Hiram. I have a basket Snowball rides in that hangs on the passenger seat so she can see, I was freaking out because we went left of center towards traffic on a 55 mph road, we were going 25 and thankfully others had slowed down but we had a near miss of two oncoming cars as we went again right into a deep ditch, bounced up off of a culvert and ended up with the front end on a driveway and the rear end in the ditch. I was shaken up but we were ok. I put on my hazards and got out to check damage, there was literally nothing thank goodness. I have a 95 Chevy Silverado, it's a tank and in great shape, gotta love that. The Hiram police were a few cars back and they managed traffic and checked on us. They were so kind, no citation, they called a tow truck for us and although we were only about 1.5 miles from the camp it cost $200, ugh. The tow truck driver is the mayor of Garretsville, Ohio and couldn't be nicer. His tow truck was a 96 Chevy. I didn't have cash on me so he said he has a drop box in front of his house and I can drop it off today, he lives on the same road as the campground, so I'll drop it off today. I'm thankful we're ok, home in our warm Winnebago and so thankful to the Hiram, Ohio police, and Mayor Rick Patrick who got us back safely, was good conversation and kind.

Lots of snow this morning, it’s pretty but we were hoping to wake up to much better weather. Working on the computer today, going to shovel a spot for Snowball and hope the snow stops. Note for next year, leave in October…..

As a US Air Force Veteran, I'm proud to be associated With Shane Henderson and his son Justice of Metal art of wisconsin. DWD helped design the Chill Daddy with Shane and The Metal Ware Corporation in Two Rivers, WI a few years back. The Metal Ware Corporation Refrigerated CHILL DADDY (https://www.metalartofwisconsin.com/collections/chill-daddy) Congrats to Shane and Justice for another year of designing and building the trophies for the Fox News Patriot Awards. This years trophy is absolutely amazing, please take a minute to watch the video, there are actual pieces of historic relics from the hands of George Washington himself. These are great people, our customer and certainly our friends. This is another amazing chapter for Shane and his son!
