Let’s hear it for the one, the only, Will Kreger! Will has officially won Dinomite’s Wall of Winners contest yet again, and to say it’s well-deserved is a massive understatement.

Imagine routing your car’s exhaust pipe into the passenger compartment. That is what was happening at this home due to a seriously corroded heat exchanger. We were shocked to see the condition of the furnace after a homeowner hired us to replace the air conditioner. Fortunately they opted to replace the entire system.

Lately, there has been more interest in only replacing the failed air conditioning side of residential hvac systems when the cooling fails, rather than the entire heating and cooling system at once. This saves a little money up front by retaining the existing furnace but it costs more in the long run, and can be dangerous if you have a gas furnace. This photo is an example of why we recommend full system replacement.

While it might seem like there isn’t anything wrong with the furnace, many times the heat exchangers are cracked already, or will soon crack on older furnaces. A cracked heat exchanger in a gas furnace emits combustion exhaust and carbon monoxide directly into the home creating a dangerous situation and is a costly repair to make.

The A/C and the furnace work just as hard and are the same age in many cases. In most cases we recommend replacing the system together as the most economical long term solution. It’s more cost effective to replace the entire system at once because if the labor savings compared to replacing the individual components. The performance is also better because all the components are matched are rated to work together.
