Ok folks. This is what I always say about why we should all have UV lights in our hvac system. The top photo is one week after changing our pond UV bulb. This bulb wasn’t out just past the date to change it. We can’t see our indoor air but we can surely see the difference in this pond water. It’s so hard to explain UV lights but this picture does just that.

Folks, If you have a heat pump you’ll need to keep an eye on it. In this weather ice will form over the top of the outdoor fan. When this happens the defrost cycle will not defrost that ice. That ice will block airflow which will cause more ice on the coil. You can turn the thermostat off and pour some warm water over the ice. You can also turn the thermostat to emergency heat and wait for it to thaw (this could take 24 or more hours). Ice on the fan blade will make the fan unbalanced and will cause vibration, noise and possibly severe damage.
