*What is the benefit of installing UV in the HVAC system return?

A UV system installed on the return will optimize airstream disinfection and inhibit biological contamination in the HVAC unit.

*What is the benefit of installing two systems?

Installing a UV system on moist HVAC components prevents mold. The addition of a system in the return air duct optimizes airstream disinfection.

*What is the best way to use the UV system to reduce mold?

For optimum mold reduction, install a single or two lamp system as required to allow for proper exposure of HVAC components.

*Which UV system should I buy?

The best way to determine the correct model is to consult with your Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) professional, who can properly analyze your individual needs.

What’s a system?

A professionally installed heating and cooling system, or home comfort system, can come in several different configurations. Typically, a system requires an air conditioner or a heat pump outside your home and a furnace or an air handler in your home. These units work with a thermostat to improve your home’s climate.

Split system
“Split” means the system is divided between an outdoor unit and an indoor unit. The unit installed outside can be either an air conditioner or a heat pump, depending mostly on the region in which you live. An indoor furnace or air handler works with the outdoor unit to distribute cooled air through your home’s duct system.

Dual-Fuel system
Built for year-round efficiency, this system pairs an electric heat pump with a gas furnace. Because it can use either gas or electricity to keep you warm, your system will automatically switch to whichever fuel is most efficient for the weather.

Packaged units
An entire home heating and cooling system in one, package units are like heat pumps in that a single outdoor unit handles heating and cooling functions. The difference is package units do not require an indoor air handler to distribute conditioned air through ductwork and into rooms. Typical applications for residential packaged units include mobile and manufactured homes, or homes built on a crawl space.

Is it time to repair or replace?

When is the right time to replace your heating and cooling system? While there is no hard-and-fast rule, there are some important considerations to keep in mind when making a decision.

Age of your system
Air conditioners and heat pumps have an average life expectancy of 10–12 years.
Furnaces have an average life expectancy of 15–20 years.
If your unit is nearing the average life expectancy, you’ll need to weigh the repair cost against the possibility that more repairs or replacement may be needed in the coming year.

Energy efficiency
Units that are approaching the end of their life expectancy will typically be much less energy efficient than newer equipment.
When replacing your outdoor unit (air conditioner or heat pump), your indoor unit (air handler or furnace) should also be replaced for maximum system efficiency.
Energy costs (gas, oil, electricity) have risen significantly in the last decade, and will likely continue to do so. Consider the energy consumption of your unit and your potential savings over its lifetime.
Choose ENERGY STAR® qualified equipment to maximize energy savings.
Research shows that water heating, home heating and air conditioning account for more than 50% of household energy use.

Financial incentives
Financing options are available that can make your AirEase purchase more affordable.
Utility rebates in your area are listed at dsireusa.org; your AirEase™ dealer can also be helpful in alerting you to available energy incentives.
Home improvements
If there have been upgrades made to your home that improve its insulation and energy efficiency (new windows, doors, insulation, roofing, sealing, etc.), then your current unit may actually be oversized or undersized for your needs. Your AirEase dealer can make sure your system is built and sized for peak performance.

System performance
Are you happy with your current system? Your old heating and cooling system can be responsible for things like poor indoor air quality, noise, temperature swings, and hot or cold spots throughout the house.

Newer systems have advanced technologies built in that precisely heat and cool your home, while keeping operating sounds, pollutants and energy costs at a minimum.

One of the easiest, most cost-effective green things you can do for your building’s energy efficiency is to have your HVAC system’s condenser and evaporator coils inspected yearly and cleaned as necessary. Dirty coils force compressors to run longer and work harder than required, increasing energy usage and utility costs while decreasing component life and occupant comfort According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), major utilities, and other experts, dirty condenser and evaporator coils can significantly increase HVAC energy usage and associated utility costs. The U.S. DOE says that “a dirty condenser coil can increase compressor energy consumption by 30 percent.” A dirty evaporator coil decreases airflow, resulting in reduced heat transfer and a degradation of the dehumidification process. These can cause overall air quality to decline and systems to fail, and decrease the life expectancy of motors due to increased heat while running.
