From the Design Archive: Today, we’re spotlighting our design, a 1,300-square-foot, zero-energy two-bedroom, two-bath home that embodies the past, present and future.

Its front nods to traditional MidWestern farmhouses with gables and a deep porch while the rear features a modern twist with recycled metal siding. Painted in buttercream or “corn yellow,” the home integrates sustainable materials and technologies with an "entertainment center" showcasing its green construction.

Designed to meet ADA and Fair Housing Standards, the house can adapt to different configurations, allowing for additional rooms and varied layouts.

More big things are brewing on our “under-construction” front 🍻

Construction officially kicked off in May 2025 on our renovation + addition project for Kingston Standard’s new zero-fossil-fuel brewhouse and cellar. We began by demolishing the existing overhead garage door of the former Sunshine Market space (now the brewhouse), then fully scooped out the interior - revealing an incredible wood ceiling and refreshing the existing steel with a bold safety-yellow finish. After being boarded up for decades, the refurbished steel windows turned out truly spectacular.

From there, the new addition took shape as the cellar component, complete with a drive-in cooler, offices, bathroom and kitchen. The masonry wall between the two buildings was rebuilt with a new foundation dug and poured, plus a floor slab designed with drainage to support the brewhouse’s wet-space needs. Framing followed, along with scissor roof trusses, Marvin windows and the space topped off with a pale wood ceiling finish. Add in the brewhouse equipment, piping and fixtures and suddenly the space had a really good flow. 🍺

Most recently, the new addition’s standing-seam metal siding and canopy were installed, and it’s really starting to shine. We can’t wait to toast success when this one wraps up. Cheers ✨

A major Wiltwyck Retrofit construction update on Green Street in Uptown Kingston 🏗️

Officially underway since June 2025, this multifamily project has made significant progress. Demo wrapped in August, followed by foundation and site work in September with exterior prep and new addition framing kicking off in November.

Today, the second-floor addition and new roof framing are nearly complete. We’re especially excited to see the cathedral ceiling taking shape in the second-floor living space where the “ghost” of the original Cape Cod gable remains visible to the left (image 9). That old-meets-new moment was central to our original design concept and seeing it come to life is incredibly rewarding.

Next up: framing the new second-floor dormer and installing windows. More soon as this transformation continues.

I called the Kingston Building Department at they answered "Hi Jim". (blush!)

Let’s pool our resources… And show you what we’ve been up to in Olivebridge, NY. This under-construction poolhouse was designed to create a bright, open space over an existing pool - with tons of windows and skylights to drench the interior in natural light.

In true Loj form, we brought in a dynamic roof/ceiling design: no ridge beam, just clean modern lines, a standing seam metal roof and structural ingenuity that quietly nods to the gambrel roof of the main house.

Instead of a ridge beam, we used metal rod rafter ties to keep the walls from spreading under the weight of the roof, plus angled wood collar ties to ensure long-term support without sagging. The siding? A perfect match to the main house so the whole property speaks the same architectural language.

Now, just add water…

It’s time to ferment the future. 👀 We’re thrilled to share that construction has officially begun on our expansion project for Kingston Standard’s production facility, located in the former Sunshine Market space in Kingston, NY! It’s been such a joy collaborating with Tait and the KS crew… We can’t wait to see their dream space take shape so Nano Brewing can truly tap into its full potential. Cheers to what’s ahead! 🍻

✨ Island in the Dream... We gave this tiny kitchen in Kingston’s Rondout neighborhood a major glow-up by making smart use of every inch (swipe to see the before in photo #4). The client wanted to preserve the Victorian soul of the home, so we designed a custom island that feels more like an heirloom you'd inherit than something you'd install.

Handmade by Von Miller Design Workshop, the island adds warmth, function and a bit of golden flair with a copper sink and brass faucet. Cabinets as furniture and tiny done with big style.

Back to one of our projects currently under construction: The in Kingston, NY. This adaptive reuse transforms a former warehouse into a residential loft for two artist clients.

We’re working with the building’s original truss roof structure - each truss is unique due to the building’s skewed footprint. Over the client’s offices, we’ve inserted a new interior roof that creates an interesting and layered intersection with the existing trusses.

The jewel of the space? The central stair, which took multiple design iterations to fit within the clients’ dense program. It was a challenge, but we think it’s a success.
